Mini-doc "My Story"
Here is a mini-doc I just finished filming/editing. This is part of a series of min-docs I did for an organization.
Let me know what you think. Thanks, Brent www.vimeo.com/19684807 Filmed on Sony EX3 in 720p60. |
Very solid and well done! I was captivated in the first few moments.

GOOD WORK :)
good sound too, nice lighting on interviews very symmetrical. Crush the blacks and grade it be very nice and cinematic. :) What Mic did you use? Thanks |
Hi Ollie;
I used my Sennheiser MKH 50 plugged into my Marantz PMD661. I really like that combination! I used 3 cool lights LED panels for the lighting (1 had a softbox attachment on it). As for the grading, I already had another file rendered with more grading (I switched the video file in Vimeo yesterday so it is all good). The video can still be found at the same link.... |
Agree with sound comment. You nailed sound. Same with piano in background.
More importantly for me you made a story about a pig farmer compelling and sad and I have no doubt it will tug anyone's heart strings, with the possible exception of "Babe," who watches it. Nice work. I do have one quick question. The interview shots, most notably from 122 to 128. I noticed you elected for close ups with no headroom. An unusual choice but I wouldn't say it bothered me, only that I noticed it. Not a criticism, just a question, why'd you go that route? |
Hi Matt,
I did those close ups as I really liked the way it looked. I think the subjects eyes tell a lot of the story and getting nice and close gets those eyes bigger. I shot this with two cameras, my EX3 was the wide angle and I had my EX1 right beside the EX3 and zoomed in. The clients loved the look and feel of the video. |
Ah, of course, "The Sergio Leone." I like it when rules are broken and yet the film works. Keep breaking them and good luck with the rest of your stories.
