It wants Flash Player 9. I suggest going to the Adobe site and getting it instead, just to make sure. But remember even they want to add Yahoo Toolbar, so uncheck that box.

After Flash Player 9 is installed, the MySpace stuff works OK.

Not a waste of time at all. Very funny.

¡Sí, Se Puede!

I wrapped up work on this documentary in May of this year, but it has just recently gained some recognition.

Focusing on the stories of two everyday undocumented citizens currently working in the US, ¡Sí, Se Puede! is a short documentary highlighting the immigration reform issues debated within the United States.

The doc is also featured on Volume 4 of The Journal of Short Film, releasing August 8. It was also recently accepted to the Newburyport Documentary Film Festival.

The doc was produced with no budget, using a Canon GL-2 (primary cam) and an XL-1. It took approximately two months to complete.

Camera wise, it was an alright documentary. It was informative, but wasn't highly entertaining when it came to cinematography IMHO.

Also, your documentary says that all people should be treated the same, no matter what color or race or religion or WHATEVER. But the problem that I think you missed is the fact that we do treat people the same. Anyone can break the law, whether white or black or mexican or asian. Illegal immigrants want the same rights as Americans. They can have those rights, as long as they enter the country legally. To come here illegally, and ask for rights (and etc) would be like someone from the US going into Mexico illegally and demanding free healthcare and not to be deported. The immigration laws in Mexico are VERY strict.

In your documentary, the man said he is illegal, but not a criminal. I have much sympathy for the man and the millions of other Mexicans because the current state of the country of Mexico is aweful. I just did a missions trip to build a house for a family near Tijuana and it is horrible. Besides the sympathy, I feel that America is being blamed for the problems in Mexico. Instead of demanding rights that could be theirs if they entered legally, undocumented people should demand rights from Mexico, rather than blame the US.

Cat Fight at OK and Corral online
 

I posted "Cat Fight at OK and Corral" to Video.Google. It is the begining of a modern take on a western. It was inspired by a piece of music titled "Taxim in Red" from Ronni Raygun.

The piece is 7 1/2 minutes and shot with the XL-H1 in 24F DV mode. Just a fun project we did one Saturday for a learning experience. Many people have asked why I ended the piece where I did. This is the first chapter. I am currently writing the rest of the story.

The basic plot: without giving it all away, 2 women are given assignments. They drive to reach their destinations to make their appointments and run into each other. They are old friends in the same line of work. There are guns.

really really really bad sound. I dont know anything about sound but this i know. This is bad. Oh, and some of the scenes were too dark. concept is kinda cool. good effort. it needs alot of editing. the film dosnt say enough for the amout of footage...cut it down in half!

First, thanks for providing some feedback. I am always open to comments and appreciate when people speak up.

But I rather not get into pushing my own opinions at the moment. I do want to say, though, that the doc was produced so that the voices of the workers alone could be heard. We (the production team) did not want to directly insert our own beliefs, so that the workers themselves could be heard for what they had to say. (Of course, you can argue that we are projecting ourselves into the piece by choosing what makes it into the final film.) But anyway, the immigration issue is incredibly complex and is far from black and white. But that's pretty obvious, anyway.

I think our subject was implying that they do not want to be treated as a lesser people, that they are just like you and me. They are not criminals (if you put aside the border crossing) because they are only here to work for the betterment of their own families. This is true for many of the workers living here. That is not a crime. Getting a legitimate visa, or obtaining US citizenship is extremely difficult, and not a real option for the majority of the people beacuse very few are granted every year.

Anyway, I don't want to get too far into it, but the whole point is that the doc should lead the viewer to ask more questions.

Funny! Work? What's that?

You matched the look of the Apple ads nicely. I watched many of the other Mac spoof ads and yours have the look and spirit of the originals better than the others. The only technical thing worth mentioning is the shot composition. In some clips there is too much headroom. The actor's eyes are sometimes going below the halfway point on the screen and a fair amount of blank white is looming above. I do not notice this issue with your tech reviews, so it is probably just a one-time oversight. Perhaps that could be solved by having Tiffany stand on a small applebox? Your reviews have you both sitting down and there is less difference in your heights that way.

Warren, that was great! Good job! The little intro was neat as well as the titles. You did a good job showcasing awkward situations. I thought it was dragged out too long though, and the conclusion was weak. I was expecting something unexpected, but it sort of just wrapped up.

Another technical hitch was that there were parts where the cuts were like one right after the other. Too many cuts in a short amount of time. It was hard to watch when the cuts moves so fast.

I think it was still well done, I look forward to seeing more from you.

Comedy Splatter Release - The Morning After
 

Hi guys…

Just wanted to let you know about a short film that I’m currently pimping to the horror film festivals. I’ve just been at work updating the site when I realised I hadn’t dropped a link off here before.

The Morning After is a 7 minute short film we finished up a couple of months ago, was shot on an FX1, and has a ridiculous amount of blood in it. If you are at all queasy – please do not download this film! It was an exercise in visual storytelling without dialogue, without a moral, and certainly without taste. You’ve been warned.

But it looks pretty and that’s the main thing. :) I always wanted to make a pretty splatter film – and here it is!

The last thing my camera saw...
 

Well, my Canon EOS 300D finally had a stroke yesterday. I surpassed 30,000 shots with this camera, and the mirror finally gave out. I haven't decided whether or not I want to replace it or just repair it yet.
Anyway, here's the last thing my camera saw before giving it up. It's a timelapse.
I built a rig that clamps onto my car door and uses a Bogen video head. I originally built it for my video camera, but once I tried this I fell in love with the results. Looks like now I'll be going back to the video camera.
