speak now or forever hold your peace!

Glenn Davidson June 29th, 2007 01:31 AM

Thats pretty cool. Good job. I like the before/after wipes. That fire effect in the background as he is climbing through the window looks so real, that it is scary. Fun suff.

Jamey Johnson June 29th, 2007 04:41 PM

Hey Riley, I sent you an email about it. Did you get it?

Riley Harmon June 30th, 2007 08:07 PM

yeah, but it got bumped because i dont use that address anymore

Chris Sackett June 30th, 2007 11:10 PM

Pretty intresting effects you got there!! How long does it take to create something like that?

Justin Tomchuk July 1st, 2007 06:48 AM

I like it a lot! It looks very real!

Riley Harmon July 1st, 2007 11:18 PM

i think i spent a month editing, and doing the vfx, of course the vfx took the most time, i think there were about 20ish shots to do, some long some short, some sky, some object integration, some smoke, some fire, etc etc

Terry Lee July 2nd, 2007 11:26 PM

emm I can't see anything.

The screen is white?

Richard Grebby July 3rd, 2007 07:32 AM

would love to figure out how to do this, is there any sites that have tutorials?

Jamey Johnson July 3rd, 2007 04:27 PM

haha. I sent Riley an email about the tutorials subject, but it got bounced/lost. I think he used to have a sky replacement tutorial way back, and i was hoping to get it. His sky replacements always look so much better than most of the ones I see.

Kyle Prohaska July 3rd, 2007 08:13 PM

Things look nice, but those last few shots have some errors...you can see the sky bob when its not supposed to. Difficult shot to pull off though so props.

Cool stuff.

For some reason the breakdown makes it more obvious that the fire and smoke is kind of fake... possibly because I'm inclined to look carefully at it. But I don't think that comment is fair for a low-budget video.

Richard Grebby July 4th, 2007 07:10 AM

Another thing i'd like to do is some colour correction like you have done. Anywhere I can find that out?

Ash Greyson July 4th, 2007 09:55 AM

Riley is awesome and for those who dont know, even more impressive is that he is a 20 year old art student at OU. Check out what he does with his time in the summer...

Beautiful work! If the smoke and fire effects don't look 100% real, as someone else posted, I think it adds to the otherworldly quality of the shots!

How did you do the slo-mo, if you don't mind me asking?

Giuseppe Palumbo July 4th, 2007 10:24 AM

great stuff, inspirational :)

Riley Harmon July 4th, 2007 12:44 PM

shhhssss - ash, you're not supposed to reveal my age! lol

some girls drove up and gave me their phone number when we were projecting and turned out to be some 30 yr old, not that old mind you, but i feel like a youngster

We shot the video at 60p on an hvx. The song was performed at 250% since we shot at 24pn and it synced just fine. The idea was always that the fire was representing an emotional place. It may have turned out too well as it was banned in the UK. The version there has no fire.

They banned it because of fire??! That's ridiculous!

I was really impressed with the colour grading. It had more of an 'emotional' impact on me than the special effects.

Ash Greyson July 20th, 2007 08:58 PM

Here is a version with less compression... still doesnt pop like the real thing but better than Youtube...
