switching from 35Mbps to XAVC

Hi there. In a very recent thread I asked about Catalina OS and the Sony Content Browser, which led Doug to suggest that I use XAVC instead of 35Mbps.
I've tried to change my camera (Sony PXW-X200) settings, but without any luck so far. In my menu, in System, I can switch from FAT to ex-FAT (if only I could do that to myself), but a message comes up saying 'Cannot use media. Unsupported file system".
When I bring up the menu/System again (after my camera restarts or whatever), I now see XAVC/MPEG2: XAVC listed, and just below that in the format: XAVC-1.

But I think I my media is unsupported.
Question: I mostly use Sony SxS cards. Are they too old to do XAVC?
Also: I have an SxS-like card that holds a 95MB/s Sandisk Extreme Pro SD card. Would this card be able to handle XAVC?
Thanks for any advice. Malcolm

Re: switching from 35Mbps to XAVC

I briefly tried XAVC with my Sony PMW-300 and had to reformat the SxS card for the menu option to become active. Correcting the file system / format is the first step. Also, be prepared to need a whole lot more storage for the same length of footage.

Re: switching from 35Mbps to XAVC

I ran into the same problem when this year I got a PMW-300K2 and retired my old EX-3...thinking I could use my old sxs cards, but found out they would not work when using the XAVC codec...so I had to buy the XQD cards with the sxs adapter...this is what I got from the Sony XDCAM help desk:

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
I tested PMW-300 (v1.61) and XQD QD-G128E media and all File System modes are supported in (UDF exFat and FAT).
I will assume all capacities are compatible and please contact me as needed

So, now I have a 120 gb and a 64gb with the adapter (QDA-EX1)...and all works just fine...HTH

Re: switching from 35Mbps to XAVC

My SxS card colour was/is orange, being the go-faster colour and all that.

Hope this helps.
