SI-1920HDVR--wow!

Just looked at some footage, re-read the FAQ, and paid very close attention to how the camera works (it's like a computer with a dual-core processor in it) and I'm impressed! Spend some time on the site and get familiarized with it. It's quite cool.

I had no idea what this camera could do, but it's very interesting and quite different from what we're used to a camera doing.

Yeah, for all the hype around Red (which is still pretty exciting), some people seem to be overlooking that this camera is here now. Pretty cool stuff.

I agree--RED sounds awesome, but this camera is here now. But, I'm always excited about new cameras.

I was under the impression actual delivery of this camera was a few months away. Did I read august?

Isnt there a a competing product for 1080p that outputs cameralink and weighs in at rather less money for just the head versus the SI head+lens*2 = 12K USD? Also isnt it based on a KODAK CCD chip with global shutter rather than the Altasens CMOS of the SI?

The SI seems under attack from the more expensive (but perhaps not by much) RED on one side and from the sub $5K USD KODAK based offering (head without lens, cameralink, also 1080p Bayer) on the other.

It's unclear to me how you record footage from RED. In the end, the final price might be a lot more than SI's product. I can see accessories really just killing you with that system. Since SI's camera is based on their already proven industrial camera technology, I'm under the impression that they can ramp up really quickly. But yeah, I don't think you could walk in there and buy one tomorrow.

True that the camera isn't shipping yet. What he meant by here and now was that unlike the RED which was a mock-up at NAB, Silicon Imaging had their camera on the show floor in an operational state.

If you haven't already, take a look at the camera courtesy of yours truly from NAB. http://media.dvinfo.net/nab/silicon%20imaging.movx

right click and do a save as then remove the 'x' from the end of the filename to play it.

Ok, so the RED-ONE was a mock up and the SI actually exists but according to this thread,

http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=50035

That KODAK based camera head, 2MPixel 1080p up to 33fps was actually being sold at the end of last year.

.. and it would seem they have added a gigabit ethernet model.

SI-1920HDVR Delivered and New Orders

We HAVE already delivered cameras in the current form factor!

Based on feedback from NAB and from the Forums, we will be making some mechanical changes and additional software enhancements.

Orders placed during the next 60-days we are planning to ship in September.

This gives us plenty of time to add some curves and sizzle!

What does it look like?

I've been looking around but can't find an actual picture of this camera. The QT movie didn't work for me on either my Mac or PC. It sounds pretty cool, but the ergonomics and layout are important. Any links I should know about?
