What mode do I need to shoot in for slow motion?

I have a shoot tomorrow where a couple of scenes need to be in slow motion. I'm not editing the video.

One scene is of a chain being pulled to breaking point and then breaking. The customer wants it in slow motion.

Do I use "smooth slow motion" mode or high speed mode?

I've never used either.

On the Z5U (I know its a different camera) it's Smooth Slow Record & must be shooting Interlaced, not progressive. It basically shoots 4 times slower, so 120fps.

I have used the 'time lapse' feature and it works pretty well, but I haven't done slow motion, (and I hate giving suggestions when I haven't personally used a feature). But if you look in the manual on pg. 61 there is a table that explains how the Slow & Quick functions work and provides some values on speeds you can expect with different shooting settings. But beyond that, I'll let others chime in on their actual experiences.

Thanks, David and Mark, I don't have a manual, apparently I threw it away? I don't know. I also looked for it at Sony and gave up and quit and posted here.

My shoot is in the morning and I'm swamped this evening and there just isn't enough time in the day!

Thanks for giving me the page number!

Jeff

Type 61 into the top page search bar & it'll bring it up:)

Thanks David, very kind ofyou! I'll look it up now.

If anyone has experience using these modes please share with me your experiences.

What are your requirements for the slowdown factor? The X70 can at best offer 40% speed if recording at 24p with a framerate of 60 fps.

I've only done one slow motion recording in 30p with a framerate of 60 fps (so 50% speed). Also just did a time-lapse recording at 60p with 1 fps (1 second of footage representing 1 minute of real time).

Both are easy to set up. Go into Camera Set | S&Q Motion and set both the recording format and frame rate (based on what you need). Then, select 'Execute'. Press record to begin. Note that in some modes, stopping the recording may take a while (see the 'Notes' on page 61).
