Replacement filters for the PDW 700
Has anyone ever replaced the filters in the wheel on the PDW 700 with custom filters? I am getting requests from the DP's for a star filter.

It's likely to use the same size filters as a Digibeta etc.

It can be done. I know filters from the F900R will work, not sure about DigiBeta. The process is pretty simple but should be done in a clean environment. Dust behind the filters is a killer. You may be able to get the same effect with filtration in front of the lens.

Thanks , we'll investigate external options first. I was hoping for a premade product from a company like Tiffen but it looks likes it would have to be custom made.

A star filter works a lot better in the filter wheel than in front of the lens. A filter in front tends to be more "in focus", so you'll see the grid of the filter unless you're totally wide open on your iris.

We pulled a cross filter out of a retired BVW D600 and it does fit. Put in place of the darkest ND filter(#4). It works fine..tested on jewelry. I'm going to try filters out of some BVP 570's but it looks like most of the recent 2/3 cameras have the same size filters.

Don't want to cause any problems but the physical size of the filter aside you might have some unintended resolution issues using an SD filter on an HD chip. May be fine but I would check it out very thoroughly before leaving it in all the time. Shoot some test charts and see. HTH

I'de like to put in a darker ND! I was in Arizona last week and even with filter 4 was at F16 and suffering from diffraction softening, yuk! Ended up using -6db gain, but even then was at F11. The 700 really needs more ND. Might need to invest in some screw on ND's for shoots where the Matte Box is too bulky.
