How can I convert this footage?

New challenge came my way today. A client came in with XDCAM camera and disks and asked me to bring in to Final Cut.

I've downloaded the transfer software but was wondering why I couldn't import anything. Then I see that the footage is recorded 35Mbit and Final Cut isn't compatible with that.

The client actually wants to convert this to DVCAM. Is there a way to transfer these files and convert?

Thanks for any help!

I have the camera in hand but no manual. Is there a way to play DVCAM downconvertion from the original HQ files?

Warren,

you share one of the biggest frustrations of FCP users for this moment. Ingest 35Mb footage (and for me in Europe 1080p25 material). At this moment you can only ingest 25Mb 1080i50 and 25Mb 1080i60 material with FCP.
You can however downconvert 35Mb material to DVCAM anamorphic if you have the camera at hand. Connect the camera with firewire. In the setup menu of the camera go to 'output' (menu nr 07), goto i-link mode, choose AV/C (instead of FAM). Shut down the camera and start it up again. Start FCP on your Mac. In 'easy setup' choose for DV PAL Anamorphic or DV NTSC Anamorphic. Open a new document. Now you can import files with 'log and capture' as usual.

This works on a PDW-F330 XDCAM HD camera.

Thank you Klaas.
I made the switch and captured DVCAM. Do you know if the Flip4Mac plugin can handle the 35Mb?

Thanks again!

Warren
