LCD Image is Cropped - can i set to see full image?

The image I see on my flip out LCD is somehow cropped. When I capture using FCP I often see objects that I had excluded from the scene. Just yesterday I was filming in windy conditions and had a fuzzy sock over the mic. Couldn't see it in the LCD (and didn't notice it in viewfinder) but upon capture there were a few fuzzy hairs, enough that I'll have to resize the image in FCP! Also framed an interview in a busy refugee center ... looked fine on LCD but after capturing I've got the arm of a plastic chair in shot. Very distracting!

Is there a setting for LCD that will allow me to see what the full image will be upon capture? I shoot in 1080i50.

Hope this is clear.

Cheers
Dave

HC series, no. A1, yes. You don't say which one you have. ALLSCAN mode, page 60 in the A1E manual.

Thanks Adam. Don't have the manual with me as I'm out of town for a few weeks. However, I went into the menus of my A1E and found allscan. Indeed it was off. Turned it on and voila I can see what I'll get, although the image size is considerably smaller with the black bars on all sides.

Is there any way to use the full size of the LCD but see what you'll see when you capture the material?

Thanks!

I think you may be asking for too much, my friend.... To see everything the image obviously has to be somewhat smaller, and I'm guessing they need to allow for manufacturing tolerances to make sure no image is hidden under the plastic frame surrounding the LCD.

Thank you for all of your help with this one!

Dave, that cropping of the image was a right pain, and my Z1 suffered in the same way. Thankfully all Sony's latest cameras show the full image, full screen.

My Z1 would only show the full image if I was shooting HDV and if was turned on in the menu (like yours) but like yours it was a 2½" image inside a 3½" LCD screen. Horrible - so I never used it. Whatever gave the designers that good idea, huh?

tom.
