HVR-A1E What does this mean??
Hello
I have been reading the tec.spec at Sonybiz.net for the HVR-A1E (PAL) and this is what it says on the output:"Component Video Out: 1080i / 576p / 576i " Does this mean the camera has some sort of progressive mode, or am I missing something??? Cheers Hans |
Don't have any direct knowledge of the A1, but this sounds like what they do with the Z1. If you shoot in 1080i HDV there's a menu option to downconvert the componet output to 576p (the z1 can also do 480p). In fact, it looks really nice on my Z1.
The only "gotcha" is that this only works through the component output; you can't send progressive through the firewire port. So it's use is limited to viewing on a monitor or capturing with some sort of card. On the Mac that would cost around $1,000 unfortunately. |
Ahaa, to bad.
I have yet another question about the component output that you maybe will know the answer to. I have a ADS/tech PYRO/AV link that has a component (in) pass tru to firewire out The connection would be something like this Camera/component out to ADS/ component in - ADS -firewire out to computer. What would I get ?? I hope you understand what i mean Cheers Hans |
Wow Hans, that looks like a new product which I hadn't seen before. The old version didn't have the component input as I recall. From the specs it sure would appear that you could use this to get 576p and 480p (the specs indicate it handles both PAL and NTSC) into your computer, but of course I've never tried. But for $160 I just might be tempted :-) Would also be a good way to convert firewire to component for viewing on a good monitor.
Anybody else have experience with this product? Here's the company's specs: http://www.adstech.com/products/API-...sp?pid=API-555 |
Hello
Thank you fore the quick answers Hrmmm maybe where on to something here. If you or anyone else will test it I hope you will post the answer here on the board. Cheers and greetings from Stockholm Hans |
It says the capture resolution is only:
NTSC: 720 x 480 @ 30 frames per second PAL: 720 x 576 @ 25 frame per second |
Correct, and that is what you need to capture either 480/30p or 576/25p. The Z1's progressive mode is standard definition, not high definition.

Well I couldn't resist picking up one of those ADC Pyro A/VLink boxes today at CompUSA. Unfortunately, it can't sync up with the z1's 480p though. Here's some more info:

Well I guess it sounded to good to be true, very sad.
