Costa Rica HC1 footage

Beautiful. I really like the image of this camera. IMO it beats the FX1/Z1.

Thanks David, it is nice to hear you say that you like the image quality as i was thinking of getting the FX1 first.

Miguel, thanks for sharing that. I enjoyed looking at the other stuff on your website also. I have an FX1 and am looking a buying a second camera and the HC1 is looking interesting. Can you point me to raw m2t files shoot in good lighting in order that I might critically compare with my FX1 m2t right off the camera.

Dave, interesting to read your observations. Have you compared m2t files as I would like to do?

What lens did you use for the hawk and the iguana, Miguel?
The iguana must have been manual focus, but what about the hawk and the spider monkey? What weight is the HC1?

Just my opinion, not necessarily a 'scientific' based remark, ie, not based on thorough analisys. From all the footage I've seen from HC1 and FX1 the consumer camera seems to have more vivid colors and finer resolution. Very photo-like, being CMOS and all.

That is not to say that the HC1 is the better camera, just that I prefer the images I've seen from it. I'm sure that in terms of control, options, light sensitivity and exposure latitude the FX1 is the winner.

I'm pondering very seriously getting an HC1 though...

Everyone forgets to mention that resolution is better on the cmos camera.

Cmos = 1920X1080 vs FX1/Z1 = 1440X1080

Actually, the CMOS is 1920x1080 while the FX1/Z1 CCDs are only 960x1080. However, because there is only 1 CMOS the number of luminance samples is only 960x1080 and chrominance is only 480x1080 - while all three channels of the FX1/Z1 are 960x1080. Both cameras are recording their signals as 1440x1080 on tape. So, while the HC1/A1 is better resolution than one might expect considering it's only a single sensor it's definitely not higher resolution than the FX1/Z1.
