Was this using the CineLook mode on the camera or was it shot normal and all done in post?

Alex Thames April 27th, 2006 09:29 PM

Excellent look, Jung. How, precisely, did you alter the curve?

Gian Pablo Villamil April 28th, 2006 03:41 AM

It looks like a slight s-curve, for blacker blacks, with maybe a bit of a shift upwards of the red curve, for a bit of warming.

Dave Perry April 28th, 2006 06:15 AM

Very nice. Good to see somone actually use some locked down shots to demonstrate a film look. Nice color correction.

Phil Hamilton May 5th, 2006 12:01 PM

Looks good to me as well. Please let us know the particulars of camera settings, lens filters, etc as well as anything you did in post. tks

I don't think he's going to tell us. He doesn't seem to want to if his constant ignoring of our questions says anything. That's too bad because we could have all benefitted.

Floris van Eck May 5th, 2006 01:41 PM

I agree. Every time he is posting something he does not reply to any questions. I am not the one to judge but I think forums like this are here to help people and I think people who only like to show off should go somewhere else.

But maybe Jung has been busy so I hope he reads these posts and will tell us how he achieved this (camera settings + post actions).

I guess I'm in the minority here because I just don't find the footage that impressive. It looks like HDV footage looks from an HDR-HC1 with deinterlacing and a Gamma S-curve applied (example for Mini-DV footage here: http://www.dvinfo.net/articles/filmlook/broadway2.php). He hasn't created anything that the rest of you can't create with relatively little effort.

I am especially interested in how I can achieve something like this with Final Cut Pro 5, the application I am using now for editing.

If there is a thread about this, or someone can explain it to me, it would be greatly appreciated. I read the article you linked.

John McManimie May 6th, 2006 03:25 PM

I don't have any experience with Final Cut Pro but your best bet is probably Nattress Film Effects if you can afford the $100 (pretty reasonable price):
http://www.nattress.com/
(Too bad Graeme Nattress doesn't make software for Premiere Pro and other PC applications. He would probably make a killing...)

You should look in the Final Cut for HD / HDV forum:
