I can only hope that Sony comes up with an AIS accessory that would allow Stereo inputs, MIC or Line and throw in a Headphone Jack. I have no doubt they could sell them for $150.

Hello Mike,
Thanks for your help on how to modify the ECMHGZ1. I have now connected a Sennheiser ME64 and mounted it directly on the camera.
I was wondering if you have any clou on how these HOTSHOE_ID1 and HOTSHOE_ID2 can be manipulated to different functions in the camera. Are these binary (so you can access 4 functions)?
What I can read from the schematic is that a signal feedback from the accessory AIS activates ie. the power to the AIS. If one can manipulate this, also the XLR assay of the HVR-A1 can be used. In that case one don’t need a battery powered microphone and you can use the camera battery power and the generated phantom power of the XLR assay.
Do you have any suggestions on these AIS functions?
