Fred,

I would not go with anything less than the Sony VCL-HG0730X. MSRP is $189, but much cheaper perhaps at B&H and elsewhere. It is the only 30mm WA lens shown compatible for HC3 at Sony's website, due to the high grade optics.

You've gotta high def camera (that wasn't cheap), I'd think you 'd want the best optics.

The high grade lens is cheaper than a lotta people's sunglasses.

You made a strong point there. I guess I will pick up that up Sony VCL-HG0730X.

Thanks!

You'll really like it. I have the VCL-HG0737Y for my HC1 and use it pretty much all the time indoors for run and shoot family stuff. It was difficult to get good shots in smaller areas and at tables and such without it.

It works very well throughout the zoom range, and you really don't know it's there other than wider framing respective to distance. Great Lens.

I like your "tag"/motto there, kinda my mantra too.

Could you recomend any Lens Hood for the VCL-HG0730 on the HC3 ?

Jamie Hellmich January 2nd, 2007 06:47 PM

I actually have the HG0737Y for my HC1. It is normally used indoors only for my use, and I've had no real need for one. I did get a rubber gasket from a 2-1/2" pipe size "no-hub band" that fits and offers some coverage.

It is a straight sleeve (no cone shape) and can only project a 1/2" to 3/4" beyond the lens before it starts to show up. I guess in actuallity, it would protect the lens as much as anything else from lighting or the sun and resulting flare, geometry-wise anyhow.

Other folks have mentioned Cavision hoods in other threads and forums.
