Distortion and Muffled Sound from HD1000 Mic

Ever talked to some one that was at a Night Club on a cell phone? The sound from the background is so loud that all you can hear is horrible disortion and everything is muffled.

Well you guessed it. My last wedding this past Saturday all of my sound is exactly that way. Its the first time that I have ever had this happen. My sound has always been very clear.

The mic sounds like I put it in front of a speaker at a concert.

Any ideas on what went so wrong?

Thank you in advance.

John

Did you set the audio to manual levels?

William,
Thank you for your reply. Every event I have done so far has been with the mic level on manual turned all the way up.

This is the first time that I have had the problem using this setting.

I do recall making one change in a setting before I left to the wedding. Once I get back to the office I will tell you where in the menu I was.

It was in the section of DV Recording.... Something to the effect of audio mixing. If I remember off the top of my head it was a 1 on the left side a dot in the center and a 2 on the right. It was all the way to the left and then I moved it to the center.

I hope that makes sense. LOL
I will let you know exactly what i did as soon I get to the office.

Menu Settings

Ok here is the only thing I changed before my Wedding shoot.

Main Menu/Standard Set/DV Set/DV Audio Mix =

DV Audio Mix shows:
ST1 (on the left) Center Dot and ST2 (on the right)

The Factory setting was all the way to the left.
I moved the slider into the center.

Prior to this change I always had the Mic set to manual and turned all the way up. I never had issues until I made that change.

Maybe its all in my head and I just never should of had the mic turned up anyways but listening to all my previous tapes - the sound has never been like Im sitting inside a concert speaker.

That was a loud wedding you were at. I don't video weddings but a recent bunch of weddings I've been at have been exceptionally loud especially during the dinner party.

Auto audio levels seems to work well in most situations for me, even concerts (but not rock concerts).
