Has anyone used the

Raynox 62mm HD-7062 .7X High Definition Wide Angle Lens
for the V1 and was it satisfactory

Hi Hugh,

I believe there was a fair amount of discussion about this Raynox lens in other parts of this camera forum and how it compared with other lenses, including a number of screen grabs showing the lens in use. Most of people were happy with the results. It prompted me to pick one up from B&H - but I just have not had time to use it or my new V1U yet - a good problem to have!

If you search this forum using my name and raynox you'll come up with some threads.

In summary, the raynox HD-7062 is a tremendous value. At .7x, it is significantly wider than the Sony WA (which I've not used).

At full wide to 2/3rds zoomed in (or so), it performs excellently. At tighter focal lengths (fully zoomed in) it displays some fringeing and glowing in highlights against a dark background.

I'm very pleased with it, and will continue to use it. I won't be leaving it on my lens for general use because of the fringeing, but that isn't an issue for me when I'm truely needing the wide angle, so it has proven very useful.

I'm sure that one of these days I'll be purchasing one of the .5x (non-zoom through) adaptors as well, as I frequently cover events where showing the whole room is important. This would be a supplement, not a replacement for the Raynox.

PS. David Decker, friend of Bill Deane? Did we used to know each other?

Um...
How'd that webcast work out? I heard the wandering tech was finally found whole and uninjured in time for the show?

Still doing webcast work in Portland if any such opportunities come up, and my equipment is put back together :-)

I've spent significant time on the other forums - DVInfo is the best!

Have no fears, it's a good match for the V1.

Only prob we've had is a little white blooming on some high contrast shots, that actually gave a somewhat pleasing effect (though maybe unwanted by some...).
