V1U and Z1U

I have a wedding with only these two cameras.
Anybody got any good suggestions of the best way to mix these different cameras?

Greg Laves May 28th, 2008 08:22 PM

I haven't shot a wedding with a V1 and a Z1 but I did shoot an industrial job with them and they inter cut very easily. It was almost impossible to tell the footage apart but we did take a lot of time setting them up to match before we ever rolled tape. The Z1 will probably have a very slight advantage under low light conditions, from what I understand. All of our shooting was outdoors.

We mix them all of the time, you might see a little difference in maybe some reds, V1 has more latitude than the Z1, overall mixing not a problem, what I would do is run a few tests on matching a picture profle in each and use those settings so they are closer without any post correction.

Thanks for the help, too bad I'll only have the camera a couple of hours before (one day I'll be able to afford 2 cameras)

I'll let you know how it goes!

So after coming back from the camera store my Z1U turned into an FX1...I haven't read up on this one yet. Anybody got any suggestions in mixing my 2 cameras...V1U and FX1

You sure you're happy with the FX1 over the Z1? I have both and would never pick up the FX1 if the Z1 was within 100 yds.

I can't live without the black stretch, focus assist, numerical zoom readout, WB fine tune and XLRs.

tom.

not happy...it was the only one left

I think the V1 will have a more tuneable set up. So it might be best to get the best picture/WB settings that you can with the FX1 and then try to fine tune the V1 to match it.

Hey Jason,

How did the wedding shoot go?

Let us know how the V1 and the FX1 compare when you have time.

Chris

Sorry for the delay...it's exam week here at school

The FX1 destroyed the V1U in the low light reception.
After the important dances I put the V1U up and just used the FX1. (maybe next wedding I'll have proper lighting)
As for the wedding both cameras worked great, I'm just gonna have to tweek the colors a little bit to match up better. I wish I had more time to set the 2 up before the wedding.

How does the V1 compare against the Z1? I am considering selling one of my Z1's for a V1u.

I used them both when I shot for this show...

Watch in high quality and ask away...

Ahh your youtube videos look a lot better than mine...
Mind if I ask how you export (which NLE you use) and how you compress for youtube

I love the V1U...but haven't mastered everything about it

Justin Zimmerman July 22nd, 2008 02:06 PM

not at all.

i use this format BUT recently it hasn't upscaled to High Quality unless i do a 1920 x 1080 export:
