Mike, if you're still around, you should be aware that it isn't the FF or REWing that causes wear on your cam's tape transports and heads -- it's all the shuttling back and forth if you are doing a lot of batch capturing. So if you are capturing entire tapes in one long shot, and just rewinding, your FX7 is in no danger. If you are doing a lot of shuttling back and forth during capture, then a used or refurbed HC3 will do you just fine.

Thanks Adam. Yes, unfortunately, I am doing too much of the shuttling for my own comfort. I am currently keeping my eyes open for a "returned item" at my local BB, so that I can pick up a mini-tape cam at the lowest possible price.
