I got an email this evening from B&H stating the camera was in stock.

When I checked my order online it still showed on order. Lets hope they got them shipped out this evening and the system hasn't been updated yet.

Excellent! I only live 20 miles from BH, but I pre-ordered it a month and a half ago so I guess I have to wait for UPS to drop off my early Christmas present (maybe I'll call tomorrow and see if I can go and pick it up before work!!!... of course then I'd have to work a whole shift and stare at the box until I get home.)

The word is B&H is shipping a buch of V1Us today. Mine included.

Oh boy, here we go....

Tony Tremble December 15th, 2006 12:37 PM

I hope you enjoy your cameras as much as I am enjoying mine.

On the way

Got the official email from BH including tracking number - will arrive on Monday.

Chris Medico December 15th, 2006 01:43 PM

I didn't get a shipping email today. Looks like next week for me. :(

Neal Wagner December 15th, 2006 02:08 PM

No shipping email to me from B&H yet -- I ordered the DR60 hdd also and the DR60 is still showing 'accepting orders' in the B&H listings. Hope my V1 is not held up awaiting the DR60!

If you opt for 1 or 2 day delivery they ship out the same day - otherwise they wait 1-2 business days to ship if you opt for ground (3-5 day delivery)

Chris Medico December 18th, 2006 08:25 AM

I got the email notification on Sunday. Looks like I'll have my camera this week.

Looking forward to getting out and shooting some video with it.

Barry J. Weckesser December 18th, 2006 11:39 AM

Finally arrived

Just got my camera at 11 this morning - am at work so haven't had too much time to play with it. Very professional looking unit. Will post some impressions comparing this to my FX1 when I get a chance.

Recieved my V1U from B&H this morning. Arrived one day early via FedEx 2 day having traveled all the way to Oregon. Its smaller and lighter than I had expected - perfect. Grabed some quick 30i automode shots of birds on my backyard feeder. They look fantastic on my 1080p HDTV...

John Huling December 18th, 2006 03:04 PM

Let's see some video!

Brian, where in Oregon are you located? I'm in Portland.

Picture This (a local rental co.) has been told they'll be receiving their 2 V1s this week.

Please PM me if you'd like to talk about your work and my work?

Rick Hensley December 20th, 2006 03:58 PM

I noticed that B&H still does not show the V1 as "in stock" so has the entire first shipment been claimed by preorders I guess?

Trey Dillen December 20th, 2006 05:07 PM

Just Got Mine!!!

Just got my V1U about 20 min ago...So sweet out of the box...very professional looking

Chris Medico December 20th, 2006 07:53 PM

I took the afternoon off to sign for my camera when delivered by UPS. It didn't make it.

NOW I find out that it may not have even left B&H. I'm not happy.

If that is the case I'm going to cancel my order and get one later next year when I need it again. I guess I'm not meant to have one right now.

They (B&H) seem to be having a tough time keeping up with orders - I was promised that mine would go out Monday and it didn't ship until Wednesday - I needed to pay for faster shipping otherwise it wouldn't have reached me before Christmas. In general, B&H have been very good, and I've never had a problem ordering online, but the phone order process for my V1U has been trying.

Todd Giglio December 20th, 2006 11:26 PM

I picked my V1U up at UPS this afternoon (shipped from B&H). I played around with it and was very happy. I only had a few hours before work so I adjusted the V1U to my M2 (RedRock Micro 35mm adapter) and was very pleased on how it looks (after spending time shimming the camera and the rods). I'M OFF TOMORROW!!! So I hope (if the kids let me) to go outside and record. If I'm able to, I'll post some clips (this is with the M2).

Todd

(don't quote me on posting clips since it's all dependant on my 4 year old and my 17 month old)

Chris Medico December 21st, 2006 10:01 AM

There is hope. My camera might have been found.

If they can physically put their hands on it I'm driving to Greensboro NC to get it today.

Chris

Ron Little December 21st, 2006 11:48 AM

I just got mine thank you UPS.

Chris Medico December 21st, 2006 03:14 PM

OK. I have mine now as well!! Its out of the box and looks great.

I've just started going through the manual and pushing the buttons.

Today isn't going to be a good day to shoot any video. The light is about gone and its rainy anyway. As soon as I can put something on tape I'll report.

Chris

Marcus Marchesseault December 22nd, 2006 09:20 PM

I got mine on Monday night. I pre-ordered from B&H a day or two after it was first available. Posting video right now isn't feasible, but I put a few stills in the "my gosh where is the footage" thread. So far, I am very impressed. Low light is not a problem. Smear is not a problem. Resolution is not a problem. Color is DEFINITELY not a problem. The stills can't compare to video on a big HDTV, but you can see the color.

Did I mention that it is so easy to use? If you have ever used a Sony VX/PD/FX/Z1, I think you will find the V1 better in layout than the others. I also can't believe this much camera can be crammed into something that might even be as portable as the VX2000. The only useability issue I have found when it is dark is that I tend to hit Assign Button 1 sometimes instead of the exposure control. I put a tiny piece of male velcro on the VX2000 near a control that is important to find on the first try and will do the same for the exposure button on the V1. Velcro hooks have a distinctive feel and it serves as a key point as you feel around the camera in the dark. I can now operate most functions in the dark without even missing the buttons. Most image controls are in Picture Profile and Menu and I can hit those without looking away from the LCD. The little thumb wheel does a lot of jobs on the V1, but it is easy to use.

Knee, Black Compensation, and Histogram alone make the V1 a better choice than the FX7.

Gary Gowman December 22nd, 2006 09:40 PM

Ron Little
r u my old friend/cameraman form ABC in Detroit?

Gary

Ron Little December 23rd, 2006 08:40 AM

No, never worked in Detroit.

Today, I am taking the v1u and the hc1 out for a spin.

Sticking up for the FX7 here, the FX7 does have Histogram. ;)

I honestly find enough picture controls on the FX7 to produce virtually any kind of results I need, but I know people have different needs.

Marcus Marchesseault December 23rd, 2006 04:44 PM

"the FX7 does have Histogram"

Nice. The FX7 does have a nice picture and it's good that it's not missing all the nice V1 features. For a sub-$3000 camera, that's quite a package.

Ron Little December 24th, 2006 08:55 AM

I think I am going to get an fx7 also for my B-cam and keep the hc1 for a deck. I guess it is time to sell my dvx and gl2.

Anthony Leong January 14th, 2007 05:52 PM

B&H still out of stock.

Since i only live 15 mins away from B&H, I went down to B&H to buy some accessories. I have the Canon A1 myself, but I never saw the Sony V1U in person and wanting to check it out. The B&H sales person told me they don't even have a Sony V1U on the showroom floor, because they have trouble keeping them in stock. They are in limited supply.
