FX7 for filming concerts...?

Hey guys

I’ve been looking at getting the FX7 for a little wail now, mainly because it’s much like the famous VX2000 and VX2100 with its small size.

I’m mainly filming concerts, and shows in bingo halls and bars, and later on doing music video stuff, so that film quality look is kind of important, as well as sum what good low light quality.

I’ve looked at the numbers and specs of most of the prosumer camcorders out there and to me, close to half of it goes right over my head…

Any opinions?

Thanks

I just did a multi-cam concert shoot recently with my V1U and an FX7. Obviously they match identically. I'm editing it together now and it is a bit dark (this club in particular is usually quite dark and annoying to shoot in).

The nice thing about CMOS though is that I do retain a HQ picture even when the gain is all the way up to 12db.

And obviously in brighter clubs the V1U & FX7 will really shine. I've done a few other concert shoots (with the V1U) in brighter environments and it performs really really well. I'm extremely impressed with the quality.

Yes, I have an FX 7 and do weddings and concerts mainly.

To be honest, there are some dark concerts this year I will go back and do only with my VX 2000's, as the FX 7 does not handle the low light well enough for me. However if the concert stage is well lit, it is a great camera and the 16:9 is the ideal screen size for most stages.

Cheers Vaughan

Hi Dave

nice vid.

can i ask :
1) What WA lens are you using?
2) any on-camera light at all? (doesnt look like it)
3) shutter speed ? was it 1/60th?
4) just using internal mics on FX7? or via a recorder on mixing desk? or an external minijack-plug mic?

any other tech details would be great. I am shooting some bands too.

thanks in advance.
