Separate audio channels (RADIO AND SHOTGUN) on Z1?
 

I want run a radio mic via XLR input 1 and a shotgun mic via XLR input 2.
Can anyone help me as how to do this so that both audio tracks are separate when captured into Final Cut Pro?

And can I monitor the separate audio channels thru my headphones?

This is a common Z1/FCP setup.

Audio Menu:
- AUDIO MONI -> CH1, CH2 <-- so you can hear separate channels in cans
- MIC SELECT -> XLR
- XLR SET
- XLR CH SEL -> CH1 <-- this is the magic setting
- INPUT1 LEVEL -> LINE <-- or Mic if your wireless level doesn't reach
- INPUT2 LEVEL -> MIC <-- don't forget to switch Phantom Power ON

The XLR CH SEL can either be CH1 or CH1,CH2 and you'd be forgiven to think that you want CH1,CH2 but no - that sends whatever's on Channel 1 to Channel 2 at the same time (so you can have 1 Mic, record in manual with an auto backup, or use two pre-set levels (e.g. shooting in noisy environments). Most times you want just CH1.

In FCP's capture window, second tab (from memory), Audio settings, there's two level meters and a funny little box to their left. If it shows two separate circles, you get two separate channels of audio. If the circles overlap, you get stereo. Either way, you can link/unlink audio channels in FCP by selecting it and hitting Option-L or Modify --> Stereo Pair (it toggles on and off).
