Does anyone think it'd be feasable to have a mode thats similar to SP and LP but instead of lowering teh quality to get more minutes, lowering the minutes to get more quality?

I'd like to have the option to do say 30 or 45mins and get a higher bitrate for example.

Doesn't appear to have a sidel LCD so my guess its the primary LCD. Wouldn't it be great if it was a 16:9 LCD. :)

CeBIT 2004 is in Hanover Germany. That's probably why it's listed there first.

Also, I'm sure the '0000' in the naming scheme will definitely change. That nomenclature was probably used for the beta hardware.

This camera also looks good physically as welll! A little sleeker than the JVC.

Knowing Sony this camcorder will probably start out at $5000 (or more). They seem to charge more of a premium for their products than any other manufacturer.

Yeah, I'm selling my HD10u right now!

I want to buy the next camera on the market because it's most likely it'll have full manual controls. I'm definately not happy with JVC support too... They could have listened to us and recalled these things and tweaked them...we all would have paid extra for a few tweaks. Therefore, I am going to avoid JVC like the plauge from now on. I've used Sony for years and the Pd150 is a solid unit...the PD170 is even better.

I'm betting my money on Sony because of the PD170 - this new camera must compare.

I'll hold off til I see some working footage. I still can't get to grips with people using mpeg2 and expecting to make quality indie movies with it. I really hope I'm shown I'm wrong!

Do you mean CCD?

The HD10 has a 3.5" LCD with a 4:3 aspect ratio.

The CCD is also 4:3, if I'm not mistaken. It takes stills at 1280 x 960, which implies that the full chip is 1280 x 960, and it samples video off a smaller 1280 x 720 section.

Of course, nobody knows for certain, and won't know until they crack one open and look at the chip(!)

The HD10 shoots in true 16:9 and 4:3; the LCD squeezes the 16:9 image into a letterboxed picture.

I agree with the other posters that JVC could have done a better job adjusting the minor issues (color, EE, manual control) and made their cameras much better. Now it looks like JVC will be playing catch-up to Sony.

Similar to the PDX10 but I would prefer a true 16:9 LCD for a cam that's claim to fame is its high resolution widescreen mode. Of course I've never seen a 16:9 LCD that small and I'm sure the 4:3 LCDs are a dime a dozen.

I have been assured that editing software will support HDV by NAB.
Maybe not realeased, but announced. Sony has been clear that they will not ship an HDV product until it is supported by the major editing manufacturers.
