Sony HDR FX1 -> SD mode
If I use the SD mode what the video format gonna be? Is it still Mpg2 or DVCam/DV?
|
Yes I can. It has a HDV/DV switching system. Clean 16:9 in DV , not bad.
|
In SD mode it's a 3-CCD DV camera with native 16:9 CCD's. I think if it's competitive in DV mode (and why wouldn't it be?) it'll probably replace the VX2100...

...and just about everything else!

Well one would certainly expect it to surpass the VX-2100 in 16:9 mode, but the PDX-10 already does that. However you have to keep in mind that it's considerably more expensive than either the VX-2100 ($2,250 IIRC) or PDX-10 ($1,850). Seems like Sony wouldn't want to leave that big a gap in prices. Eliminating the VX-2100 would mean that their consumer cameras would jump from the HC-1000 (around $1,500 I think?) all they way up to the $3,700 FX-1.

In the brochure on Chris Murpheys' post it mentions " high performance down conversion " - does this mean you can record in hdv then dub to dv ? More questions still remain unanswered about the dv portion . Can you use advanced fuctions like the faux 24fps ? I know everyone is real interested in the hdv image but how about alittle about the dv image. Does this camera also outperform the XL1 and dvx in their own hometown ? It would appear that a hdv>dv>nle workflow might be the way to go (and archive the originals) for awhile, for alot of people. thanks

oops...the XL2
It was such an uneventful outing that I almost forgot.
