Thanks, Jerry. Looks like a good bet! B&H has it for $280, including an Azden mic holder and a short XLR cable that I can shorten further and convert over as suggested above. I'll be without the LCD screen when I've got the 897 mounted, but I think I can live with that.
I'm trailering an Aliner to Alaska this summer, and I think the 897 will come in handy. (Wonder if I'll have a problem with all the buzzing mosquitos?) Cheers! Russ |
Not a lot to add, just a confirmation that this is a great mic. I haven't had a lot of chance to experiment with it, but so far I've used it in a restaurant kitchen and a quiet office. The restaurant stuff came out *usable* (better than expected) and the office stuff is amazing. Extremely clean sound.
The size is the other WOW factor. I have some run and gun type interviews coming up and being camera mountable (without entering the shot) is a great benefit for me. |
Russ,
You don't need to be without the LCD viewfinder. Just find a little offset bracket from somewhere and it'll put the mic over to the right just enough to clear the screen. I found one that came with an LCD 7" monitor, but you're sure to be able to find something with a bit of ingenuity... This is it with a cheaper AT mic: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ketforFX1E.jpg and this is the AT897: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...teboxonFX1.jpg Robin. |
Thanks, all! Ordered the 897 this afternoon.
