FX1 HDV vs 10bit Uncompressed Frame

TIF Comparison Image

HDV is from tape
10bit is from FCP+KonaLH capture

upper comparison is with blue channel desaturated to
show noise. Notice the difference along the fuzzy edge.
The 10bit version is better as expected, but both are pretty
noisy IMO.

Looks good for a static comparison. Would really like to see a still comparing 10bit uncompressed to HDV with high motion such as paning with people moving. MPEG 2 fairs really well with static images.

Don't want to start the whole argument of mpeg 2 stuff, just curious to see how well the codec in the camera holds up. So far it seems to be pretty good but a still from high motion would actually allow a more accurate and objective comparison.

I was being nice to HDV. :)

I'll post some next week.

Its hard to get a good comparison. I think HDV is a good compression format that still has some kinks to work out.

Apperciate the comparison. Wish I had the gear to try and push the codec hard to see what it can do. Sure that it will surprise people a little.
