FX1 is raccoon proof

Had an interesting one happen this weekend. Took my FX1 on a camping trip to Supai, Az to film the spectacular waterfalls there. It's a 10 mile hike into the falls so I stashed my camera and gear in a monster ziplock bag and carried it in my back pack. I did not even bring a tent because I wanted to travel as light as possible. I had a tarp tent so to speak. First night was uneventful but the second night I heard noises around the tarp that I threw over my sleeping bag. Thought it was the wind. Got up in the morning to find my camera bag missing along with another bag containing my prescription sunglasses. I was really pissed, thinking someone had stollen my gear. I started heading for the river near where I was camping and found both bags near the river. There was my camera sitting in the mud next to the river alonside the ziplock bag which was ripped open. The bag that contained my sunglasses was also close by. Seems that a raccoon was interested in a couple of cigars that I had in the bags although he was not smart enough to light them up. Ha!
He left the matches in another bag under the tarp. Silly raccoon. I wiped the mud off and the camera is working fine.

You're very lucky the fx didn't make it to the river - your story would have had a different mood. Very funny. Kurth

You sure it wasn't BIGFOOT? Too bad you can't get some video of that!

I used to stash cigars in my camera bag as well, but I kept smashing them...which is a shame to do to a $5 stogie, but a crime on a $10+ one! I ended up buying a travel case like this:

They cost under $20 bucks at any cigar shop or online. They keep your cigars nice and humidified, plus they're CRUSHPROOF and WATERPROOF...and hopefully RACOON-PROOF as well!

:-P

Raccoon pic.

Jack;
Great pic. Mind if I print it off? I'd like to hang it on my bulletin board to remind me how lucky I was. Thanks.

If that happened to me I'd be too f***ing mad to ever laugh about it or tell the tale. Your must be pretty light hearted!
