Weddings and Bands on the Z1E.
 

I have recently bought the HVR Z1E and was wondering if anyone had discovered some settings for filming inside the church/registry office, the reception and outside the church. I know these are probably basic questions but any help would be appreciated. I am also into filming bands. What I do is film the band miming to their CD tracks and then when I'm editing sync the music to the film and it works fine but what I need to do is find some good settings and tips on making it look interesting rather than just filming them walking and sitting down somewhere. Again any help would be appreciated. To give you a little background I am a musician and I own a recording studio so the audio side of things is not a problem. Perhaps someone knows of someone running a course on the Z1E. By the way I live in the North East of Scotland so somewhere like London would be a bit far to travel with all the costs involved.

George, get some basic books on video shooting. Learning about exposure, white balance (for indoor lighting and outdoor sun, etc.), practice which direction you spin the focus ring to focus on objects that are closer or fatrther away, and so forth. Start by learning how to get decent shots first. (Don't forget the audio to the camera).

It might be safer to get the "interesting" looks by playing around in post, where if it looks weird you just change the settings of an effect/filter/setting. The original footage remains OK.

There are two instructional DVDs by Victor Milt that I recommend. Both are packed with information, entertaining to watch and well worth the cost. Victor Milt is an accomplished film maker and a great teacher.

Thanks Serena and Eric. I bought the training dvd Sony FX1-Z1U made easy by Elite Video. This one looks good too. The Elite one is very informative and went through the menu's giving you tips on what settings to use. I also programmed 6 settings into PP that were on this forum by George Griswold but have yet to try them out. As I said, audio is not a problem and recording audio seperately is fine too as I can sync it all up. It's just that I thought someone would have some kind of setting to start with on weddings and I could experiment from there but at least I would have a starting point. Thanks for your help and if you can think of something else please get in touch.
