UV Filter on the FX-1000
I want to use a 72 MM UV filter on the FX-1000.. (essentially to cover the glass).. Will it impact the video in a negative way?

Many pros say yes -- any extra piece of glass can hurt your picture. Others say that it's worth it to protect your lens. The no-sayers maintain that the huge hood on the 1000 does a fine job of protecting the glass and you'd only need extra protection of you are shooting in harsh (wet, salty, sandy) environments.
If you're willing to spend upwards of $100 or more for a piece of clear glass, you will not likely notice any degradation. But a cheap $20 filter from Wal-Mart... yeah, maybe. |
I bought a Tiffen High Transmission Ultra Clear ( TIDHTUC72) at B& H for $56

piece of mind.
I will never forget the scratch I had on my Sony TRV900.
Must have got it from the mad rush of a wedding day. Never ever again will I not have a UV lens protector NOT on my FX1000. |
I purchased the Promaster one that is supposidly designed for HD cameras... it was ~$60, compared to the $20 cheapo. I wouldn't go without one!
