Z5u & External Monitor
Has anyone used a external monitor or any device that would plug into the HDMI-out port on the Z5u camera? I,m looking at purchasing a SmallHD DP1 but I'm concerned about the HDMI-out connection as it does not seem to be a durable connection that would stand up to repeated plug-ins.
Thanks in advance, Melvin |
I connect via HDMI from my Sony HDV deck to an external monitor. From my experience, HDMI seems like a more sturdy connection than the small firewire one, which is prone to coming loose and to occasionally failing on Sony cameras. The nature of the HDMI plug and jack seem to make it a more physically solid connection. I don't see why you'd have any problem. The images from the camera (in HDV mode) look superb going to an LCD monitor via HDMI.

Hi Stelios.
I wonder ,when you use a ext. LCD like that via HDMI do you also get all the info you have on the cameras LCD like time code, peaking etc. Or is it just the picture itself for focusing. Cheers Hans |
Thank You Rian and Stelios for your response.
Hans, that was a very good question that I will eagerly wait for the answer from Stelios. As well as this one Stelios, with all of the packaged items offered with the DP1 for $989 ( 9" Small LCD Monitor, On Camera Field Monitor - the DP1 by SmallHD ) which monitor (V5600 or DP1) in your opinion would be the better value? Any way to see a photo of your set-up with the Ikan mounted? Thanks, Melvin |

Hans, you get all the info displayed in the external monitor, but to do that you have to set it in one of the menus in the z5. Stelios |

Melvin, The reason that I chose the V5600 was that I could use the same batteries for the monitor as well as the camera. I mostly mount the monitor on my tripod so I can lift up the camera on the tripos and use the external monitor instead the one of the camera. I will post a picture soon. Stelios |

That sounds like a great aid. Cheers Hans |
