Hi Aaron,

I deleted the content of my post as I realised I have already commented on this thread.
I am not that excited about the LA100W as I got a Nikon adapter a few months ago and I am extremely happy with it so I don't really see the need especially considering the price.
I got my adapter from Mike Tapa for about half this price...

I believe the major difference is that the Sony Alpha mount will allow autofocus to work whereas the 3rd party add-on adapters do not. Whether or not this is any use to you is up to you but I am just saying there is a real difference between this Sony adapter and the others.

Hi Ofer - i did think it was possible you meant 'post cancelled' but thought I'd respond about the LA100W just in case!

Glad you're happy with your pictures from your current setup.

I am sure you are right about the difference Brendan. I don't use the AF though.

Z7 Lens on Sony Alpha

I am curious, has anyone given thought to using the supplied Z7 lens (VCL-412BWH) on a Sony Alpha A-Mount Camera? I am sure you would need an adapter to do this, however, does anyone have any suggestions or adapters that would work?

Doesn't do autofocus...

Be warned - I received mine today and it doesn't allow autofocus....

I was considering selling my Canon XH-A1 and buying a Z7 for the interchangable lenses, but I sold all my Nikon stuff last year and replaced everything with Canon (Didn't regret that, because for my business - concert photograpy - Canon's lowlight performance is way better). Now I'll have to reconsider the switch carefully. What other advantages can the Z7 offer me over the XH-A1, except for the CF-recording?

Low light. Equal or better than the DVX100B and PD170. I was amazed at shooting HD in that low a light, especially after using an HVX200 that LOVES LOTS OF LIGHT.

Not bad. In the US it's more like 50 to 60% more. ~3100 vs ~5400

"Ofer" Where'd you get your adapter from?

Gary Nattrass September 11th, 2008 03:26 AM

Creative video have them here in the UK: Creative Video Sony Specialist Dealers > Sony LA-100W (LA100W) 35mm Alpha Lens Adaptor for HVR-Z7E / HVR-S270E

Very expensive compared to the mike tapa nikon mount:Nikon to Sony HVR-Z7 & HVR-S270 lens adaptor on eBay, also, Lens Mounts Adaptors, Camera Lenses, Photography (end time 03-Oct-08 15:58:21 BST)

I got mine from Mike Tapa - same as Gary's.

Has anyone used the mount yet? Or have a pdf manual?

I have the Mike Tappa Nikon adapter which is great, only I've found that the back focus is off & so the focus change when I zoom.

Anyone know how well Sony's adapter works? What, if any, features it has?

Brendan Pyatt September 14th, 2008 02:18 AM

I used one for an hour or so I can't really tell you much.

It didn't allow autofocus. It did allow auto aperature.

MTF Mount Vs 35mm Adapter like Letus or Redrock

Hi everyone,

I have been watching this forum for quite sometime but I has not got the chance to post anything yet, so this is my first post and sorry if I sounds blunt or missed a thread that I supposed to read before I post.

I own Z7U and have been wondering what would be the difference in terms of all aspect in quality, color, DoP if we use the MTF mount directly with 35mm SLR mount with the 3rd party market 35mm Adapter such as Letus, Redrock or Brevis?

Has anyone try to compare the video result side by side?

Regards
Wen
