Active SteadyShot
 

My reading indicates that the Active SteadyShot on the NX5 is purely optical -- the reason it crops in is not because it works like a normal EIS, but because the lens moves around so much in Active mode one runs the risk of vignetting etc. if the image is not cropped in a little. The quality loss is IMHO almost irrelevant, and the shots it allows one to get are worth it.

I think the confusion may come from the progression in the consumer line. My SR11 has OIS, the XR500 has OIS and Active setting, the latest Sony's have active setting which is enhanced for rolling motion which is EIS on top of the Active OIS. I am assuming that the NX5U is like the XR500 which is purely OIS. I too leapt to the conclusion that Sony would put the latest stabilizer on the top of the line camcorder!!
