64GB SDHC Memory Cards
 

I'm currently using the SanDisk - 8GB Extreme SDHC Memory Card
It only gives me 45 mins of video but I'm just using it to practice for right now.

Anyone know if I can load this baby with (2) 654GB SDHC Memory Cards?

I am also wanting to know this... i am using 32GB Now Class 10 (Sandisk & Transcend) they work very well... but 64GB would be awesome....

Its doesn't work - won't recognize a 64GB card.

Question I do have is.....
Does any SDHC 32GB card work for shooting video?

I ask because there seems to be such a wide price range from $40 to $200 for SDHC Cards.

Does the Class Matter? 4,6,10?
Does the speed of the SDHC card matter for shooting video? 30mb, 50mb, etc

For example, would this Class 10 32GB SDHC card work:

Its currently in stock at the store but I just feel odd paying $40 for it?

64gig cards aren't actually SDHC cards. They are SDXC cards. The SDHC standard only goes to 32gig.

Anything that doesn't have an SDXC label won't be able to read cards larger than 32gig. :(

The Panasonic Class10 32gig card is a very good and a very fast card. They are also expensive.

I am using the Panasonic and ATP cards with adapters in my EX1r. They have worked without a fault for more than a year.

The NX5 operating guide indicates that you can use SD, SDHC, and SDXC cards. It's a little vague however about the maximum size that can be used. It says that it supports SD cards up to 64 GB but makes no mention of the max size for SDHC or SDXC. Has anyone actually tried using 64 GB SDXC?

I use San Disk 32 GB SDHC Extreme pro cards and they work great, have never had any problems.

I'm using the AX2000 - not sure if there is a difference.
I will call Sony - maybe they can let me know.

I read the operating guide a little further for both the NX5 as well as the AX2000 and they both will support 64 GB SD cards according to Sony. It reads as follows:

* "Memory Stick PRO Duo" media of up to 32 GB and SD cards of up to 64 GB have been verified to operate with your camcorder.

* In this manual, "Memory Stick PRO Duo" (mark2) media and " Memory stick PRO HG Duo" media are called " Memory Stick PRO Duo" media. SD memory card, SDHC memory card and SDXC memory card are called SD card.

You really shouldn't use any SDHC card less than class 10. I have the 128GB Flash drive, an 8GB scandisk class 10, and a 32GB scandisk class UI. Just the combination of 8GB/32GB cards provides me with more storage than I've ever used in a single day.

The reason I say use class 10 or bigger is class 10 is 30Mbs & class UI is 45MBs. Why do you need these when 1920x1080 FX mode is only 24Mbs? Two reasons.

First, if you don't regularly do a MEDIA DUMP of your cards, they will get "dirty" meaning they build up media fragments that will cause the capture rate of the card to decrease. Once the card gets to a level below the mode you're in, the camera will crash and/or you'll lose your footage. Class 10 or bigger helps prevent this.

Second, the bigger the class rating, the faster your footage will import from the card. Time is money and, especially for anyone who does work in news, the faster the import the better.

FMU128 Question:

If duel recording the same FX HD on card and FMU and one gets a data error on the card, will the camera reboot as it does without the FMU?

I will wait till the price drops on the 64Gig cards, I can get 2-32Gig cards for a lot cheaper than one 64gig.
I use 2-32Gig class 6 cards in my AX2000 and NX5U so I have close to 7 hours of continuous footage at all times.....

I just wound up getting the Sony 32GB Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo.
I got 2 of them for $200.00 at the Sony Store.

These are 50 mb/ps Class 10 cards and not too much more than 3rd party brands so I stick with what I know works.

What is a "media dump" exactly? I googled it and can't find anything on it.

Regardless of what Sony says, you need Class 10 or UI cards if you are shooting 24Mbs. The 64GB Class UI cards do work. I have a 64GB and 32 GB class UI and both work fine. They are the most expensive cards but worth the money. However, I don't think I've ever shot enough on one shoot to fill a 32GB, let alone a 64GB. I personally think two 32GB cards is plenty.

I've been using these Kingston Class 4 32 GB SDHC cards for about a year with the AX2000 and they didn't give me a single problem. I also used them with my Panasonic HMC40 without problems. Although those are the only Class 4 I have, other Class 4 cards may be unsufficient.
