Depth of Field
 

Does anybody know if the Depth of Field for the HXR-NX70U
is the same as the HC1 or that of a larger chip camera such as
the HXR-NX5U.

I cannot compare with the cameras you mention. You've probably already seen this, but I posted a telemacro sample a while back:

You can get a good DOF on the NX70 using the usual tricks (zoom in, open the iris, or use telemacro). In anything else, it's pretty hard to get a shallow DOF.

Did you use the focus ring or the touchscreen to focus on the different areas?

Another question I have is that when you engage the active steadyshot, it also alows
you 14X but does it jump 4X in the process and you loose the wide angle?

I used the manual focus ring in my video, Bob - it took a couple of practises to get it right, but it was pretty easy to focus. I used the expanded focus at times, and the peaking was very useful as well.

I don't really like the touch screen focus, but that's probably just me. I know others think it is great. Maybe I just have big fingers!

When you engage active steadyshot, the picture does noticeably zoom in slightly. I presume it uses a secondary software-type stabilisation on top of the optical image stabiliser. You lose a very slight amount of wide angle, but not so much that you would notice.

I haven't actually measured the difference in the zoom, to find out about the 14x and the digital zoom. I must do that soon.

The Depth of Field can't be the same as that of a larger chip camera, because it is in direct correlation to the focal length - and with smaller chips you need smaller focal lengths to get the same angle of view.

The depth of field is the same at 25mm on every camera, but on a small chip camera 25mm is a tele, while 25mm on a FF sensor is wide-angle.

Compared to regular steadyshot, Active steadyshot zooms from 1.04X to 14.45X (27.4mm - 383mm) making an effective 14X while in Active Steadyshot mode.
