AE SHift Function?
 

Hey everyone,

I am still getting use to all of my features on the NX5 and im still confused what the purpose of AE shift does..? if you have an iris to control whats the point of having AE Shift?

sorry for the some what stupid question but i just don't understand its purpose and i how could use it towards my advantage.

AE shift is for automatic modes only. It is deactive in manual mode.
That said, when in auto iris, if you find that the exposer value the camera is selecting is too dark or too light, you can adjust that vale to suit your needs.

For example, ocasually I will have auto iris on, but I like to have my footage just to the left of the histogram (darker) so I have mine set to -1.

Just as Chris says - it's a 'shift' in the automation - either up or down.
Look at this. When my camera's running unattended over a long time (say a wedding) and it has windows in shot, I need to bump the exposure by a stop to compensate. I can't leave it locked on manual (as I'd wish) because in the hour the lighting coming from the windows can change noticeably.

It's a very useful facility to have at times.
