SDi video output

Does the SDi video output of the NX5 supports audio as well? because I was reading in the Wikipedia that some SDi outputs do support audio.

Stelios Christofides...yes it does, at least in my NX5. I use it in conjunction with an Atomos Samurai. Maybe I should 'qualify' that statement. The HD-SDI 'out' on my NX5 with the 'Samurai' includes audio.

Re: SDi video output

Thanks James for your answer. Now is there a converter to convert the SDi output to video composite output. The reason that I am asking is this: I have to do this job for a school dance show where I must supply a video output direct from my camera to a projector but I know that that with the NX5 the maximum video outputs at the same time is two (the HDMI and SDI )and since I am using the HDMI for my 7" monitor I thought I could use the SDI for the projector.

Stelios Christofides...I'm not the greatest resource for this kind of information since I just recently got into DV, but it would seem to me, if you've got an HD-SDI compatible monitor, it should work. I hope some of more learned colleagues chime in, I'm out of my depth.

J.

The SDI has to be converted to composite using something like this:

Re: SDi video output

To echo the others, yes the audio can be embedded in the SDI out of the camera. We used to routinely pull nats through the SDI embed during live productions with the NX5U.

My main concern with converting the signal from the camera to another format would be maintaining the audio but that Black Magic converter does look very promising.

On the projector/monitor outputs you mentioned; it should be possible to use a splitter to get the signal to both of them if you wanted to use BNC exclusively. However, I used the HDMI from the NX5U to run a monitor and send video with audio embedded over SDI at the same time with no issues.
