SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-1 64GB SDXC Card
I just wanted to let everyone know that this card does indeed work with the Sony AX2000 & NX5u with no errors or issues. It's currently the fastest card you can buy for these 2 Sony Cameras. They are Super fast @ 95 MB/s.

Re: SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-1 64GB SDXC Card
Also using 2 of these is cheaper than the FMU and keeps the cameras lighter having 128GB internal rather than external on the camera.

Re: SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-1 64GB SDXC Card
I like having both SD cards and the 128GB FMU for backup purposes.

Re: SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-1 64GB SDXC Card
This is from SanDdisk site:
*Up to 95 MB/sec (633X) read speed. Write speed up to 90 MB/s (600X). Based on SanDisk internal testing; performance may be lower depending upon host device. 1 megabyte (MB) = 1 million bytes. X = 150KB/sec. I am using the SanDisk Extreme® SDHC™ UHS-I Cards 32GB (nearly half the price than the Pro) for my NX5 with no problems at all. stelios |

Re: SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-1 64GB SDXC Card
I ordered a couple of the 64Gig SDXC Transcend class 10 cards that were 79.00 a piece for my NX5u, and AX2000 from new egg...

Re: SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-1 64GB SDXC Card
i'm always a little nervous of having a big card, because in the event of a failure you lose big too! I have a mix of 16's and 32 Gb cards on my HXR-NX5 SDH and Memory Stick Duo, seem to work quite well. All class 6 or 10.
Would love to have the 128GB FMU but the cost here is crazy something like $1,200 !! |
Re: SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-1 64GB SDXC Card
I can see having the 64GB for size and "speed while offloading" but I still would like to know if the NX5 or any AVCHD camera can write to a card any faster then 24 mbit/s? Can anyone answer that for me?
|
Re: SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-1 64GB SDXC Card
Since the NX5u as well as the AX2000 are rated for a class 4 and up card I see no benefit in buying the more expensive Extreme cards....they are not going to write any faster than their current rate on the extreme ...Also the sony cams are not coming anywhere close to writing faster than the current crop of SD cards can handle, unless of course you buy a really cheap knock off that lies about its advertised write speeds....

Re: SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-1 64GB SDXC Card
Just a qiuick update, my 64Gig Transcend cards came today, they are working perfectly in my NX5u as well as my AX2000....

Re: SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-1 64GB SDXC Card
Dave, the camcorder writes in sequences, not continuously on the card. So the bigger the write speed, the better. The buffer will be ready for more information quicker to avoid bottlenecks. That's why people want faster speeds. Any decent memory card can sustain 24mbit/s.

Just finished recording a Choir concert that lasted a little over 2 1/2 hours...Transcend Cards were recording continously in my NX5U and AX2000, both cards performed flawless...

Re: SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-1 64GB SDXC Card
anyone ever hear of a company called MemoryStar I can source 64 GB SDXC here in Ireland for €50 which is about $66. Not sure if they'd be any good tho!!
they claim class 10 and guarantee transfer speeds of minimum 10MB/sec. Backed by 10 years warranty. As i said before - a bit nervous of putting all the eggs in one basket. |
Re: SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-1 64GB SDXC Card
Thanks for the Sony NX5U compatibility report! I've been eyeing the 32GB cards for several months now. I might just go ahead and splurge on the 64GB.
The Extreme Pros are great cards. I have an earlier generation 16GB 45MB/s. Those things are just built well, solid. If you are doing a paid gig and rely on a flimsy cheap cards which dies after a day of shooting, well, didn't actually save much money. Another feature, and reason to go with 64GB over 32GB is the wear leveling. The memory is only rated for 100,000 cycles (estimating, I didn't look at the specs for these particular cards). Wear leveling keeps track of how many times each sector has been written and spreads out the sector usage. Write speed doesn't make much difference for NX5U video. The AVCHD is coming in at 24MBs, like clockwork, literally, and I'm sure the writing code isn't much tailored for variances. Write speed does make a difference in the DSLR, though, for stills. 2K/4K cameras anyone? There are newer camera coming out with higher resolution. I haven't seen what media they are using. Possibly useful with these fast SDXC. Fast read speed is also nice, though you won't see much over 50MB/s on USB2. For 90MB/s you'll need USB3 (or Thunderbolt?). Dumping 25GB could go from about 15 minutes to about 5. |

Re: SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-1 64GB SDXC Card
thanks,
yeah i was tempted as it's really cheap and fast, but i couldn't find anything about the company or the product's reliability, so for the time being i've given it a miss!! |
Re: SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-1 64GB SDXC Card
1 Attachment(s)
I do use our professional NX5 with these 2 cheap Transcend 32 GB class 10 SDHC cards. They're just € 27 each. Is there anything wrong with that choice?

Re: SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-1 64GB SDXC Card
I have been using the 32Gig class 6 as well as the new 64Gig Transcend cards with my NX5U and Ax2000 without any issues whatsoever since day one, they are a good solid dependable card....

Re: SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-1 64GB SDXC Card
I too have been using 2 32GB Transcend class 10 cards since Feb 2011. Not a single issue. I've recorded dance recitals that go for about 4 hours, and never had a single issue.

Re: SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-1 64GB SDXC Card
does anyone know if a 128 GB card like the one shown on the site below would work in the NX5 ?

Re: SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-1 64GB SDXC Card
anybody have any ideas?? 128 GB card!
:-) |
Re: SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-1 64GB SDXC Card
I'm not sure. Seems like maybe since the FMU is 128 GB and the NX5 records to that, it should be able to?
I can see where this card would be useful if Sony upgrades the NX5U to do 4K video. LOL As it stands though, I'm personally satisfied with my dual 32GB soultion :) |
Re: SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-1 64GB SDXC Card
hmmm i'll not be holding me breath for 4k!!!
i think i'll give it a miss and stick with the 32's that i got, thanks R |
Re: SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-1 64GB SDXC Card
Nothing wrong with the Transcend 32GB class 10s. I have 4 of them that I have used without any problems. I do have the FMU unit though, so the Transcends are only backups. I would say one thing though. The read speed on the Transcend is slow when compared to a Sandisk. On my 600Ds, I can pull data off a Sandisk Ultra class 10 a lot quicker than the Transcend class 10. A noticable difference. So when offloading a bunch of cards or even offering SDEs, the quick cards will make a difference.
