HXR NX30 NXcam

If anyone owns this camcorder can you answer these questions?..Are there Neutral Density settings?
Do you feel the 28MBPS over the consumer version HDR-PJ710V of 24 MBPS plus the audio add ons justify the $500 increase?

Have you posted footage from this camera for public view?

Thanks,

Ralph Bowman

Re: HXR NX30 NXcam

I do not have one but I am thinking of getting one. The differences to the HDRPJ760 are the XLR audio with microphone, LPCM rather than Dolby, larger battery, full time code to match the rest of the NXCAM range. Comparing to the HDRPJ710 on board memory is also 96G as compared to 32G for the HDRPJ710 and it also has a viewfinder. I think that is worth more than $500. The video will likely be identical to the HDRPJ760 or HDRPJ710 as the recording format is the same. 60P on all these cameras is 28mbps, 60i is 24mbps. There is no reference to ND filters in the manual and there are none on my CX700 .

Re: HXR NX30 NXcam

Ron covered it pretty well, the 710 doesn't have a viewfinder, and only 32G memory - the 760 is the most comparable to the NX30 (pretty much identical except for the audio block/handle/mic and apparently timecode (not familiar with that feature).

Operationally and optically, they are basically the same camera, using the same optical block and electronics.

No "setting" for ND filters, and the general concensus is that there aren't any in the current consumer cams... though it would be hard to tell if there were one automatically being inserted into the light path.

You can check out this thread where I posted some footage to give you an idea about the image quality:

This was done with a cx730 but the image quality is the same.

Re: HXR NX30 NXcam

The other thing I forgot to mention was the NX30 also will record at 1280x720P60 so that it can be a B camera to the NX5U or PMW series in that mode. The consumer cameras including the AX2000 do not record in 1280x720P60. So there is quite a big difference to the HDRPJ710. The video will be of the same quality though as Dave and Noa have said as I do not think much has changed from the CX700 other than the balanced optical image stabilizer.
