Sony NX5 lens help

Hi everyone,

I have a Sony NX5 and I would like to shoot a fan-made music video in a pretty small apartment. I can probably get about 3-4 meters away from the subject but I need to get the subject in a full body shot from that short distance, preferably leaving some headroom and space under the feet. I only possess close-up lenses, a telephoto lens and a wide angle lens that creates an extreme fisheye look, it's an x0.45.

Is there any lens for the NX5 that would allow me to do this given the physical constraints? Ideally, I would also like something that doesn’t distort the edges too much (like a fisheye does for example). I've done some research, and there are various x0.8, x0.7 lenses available from Sony or from 16:9 Inc. Both apparently fit on the NX5. But I'm wondering which lens exactly I should get. I currently have my eyes on a cheap used 16:9 wide angle x0.75 one but honestly I am not very knowledgeable with lenses, so I really don't know which I should get. What can you recommend?

Thanks.

The VCL-HG0872K is what I think you want.

Thanks.

Would this work too?

I don't see why that wouldn't work. I have a similar one I use on my Z5. Should be basically the same lens. I have an NX3 now, which should also be the same, and I can try it when I get home. It does have distortion though

By distortion, do you mean fisheye effect? How much of a distortion are we talking about?

Re: Sony NX5 lens help

LOL sorry JC. My lens is actually a fisheye lens so I should expect distortion. I guess that's why I haven't been using it. The mind is a terrible thing to waste. It is a 16x9 bayonet mount, I checked it and it does fit my NX3, so it should fit yours. I've heard some people say there is some distortion at the edges. Sorry I can't help further

you might shoot some scenes with the camera in Portrait position and work that in somehow when editing

I got 2 wide angle lenses to fit on the camera. One is 0.75x and the other 0.45x. The 0.45x one "sees" more but also creates a fisheye effect, naturally. 0.75x didn't show signs of distortion, at least in the monitor. I think either one helps quite a bit really. And yes, I will definitely consider using the "portrait" position.
