What frame rate do you shoot?
I know certain projects will depict this answer, but I would love to hear generally what rate you use for what type of work?

Usually 50p (for PAL) -gives me the ability to do slowmo if needed.

I switching quite a lot between 30p and 24p. Usually 30p for TV commercial shots, but sometimes 24p too.
I never toutch the i or 60p (unless I want slow motion, and in that case I am using it through S&Q function for better data rate and the ability to review it instantly). |

By default, I've been shooting 1080p25 for release in (generally) a PAL area. p25 signified 'filmic' or 'cinematic', it signified 'expensive' and was technically good to work with (no deinterlacing) if you could shoot it nicely (no wobblecam).
When I first got the FS100, I did quite a bit of shooting in 1080p50 and liked it a lot. Never dared use it for a pro shoot, though - gotta preserve all that 'filmic 25p' goodness that the client base liked. I did accidentally shoot a scene in 1080p50 that was destined for 25p delivery. Although it was a fairly tame interview, the motion was, in my humble opinion, smoother when down-sampled to 25p than the original 25p footage around it, and so that's lead me to do a bit of testing. I think I'd do most of my future shooting at 1080p50, not for the 'video' look, but for the 'HD' look. I don't do narrative, or music video, or much arty stuff. My work is all corporate and clients like 'expensive, HD, sharp, colourful' stuff, and I think 1080p50 (or 60) delivers that. So I'm migrating. |

For the last two years, it's been exclusively file based - either on the web (HD) or via WMV downloads (for use in PPT - or 1280x720 H264 at 5kbps for Keynote users).
With the EX1, I shot stuff that 'had to look like video' for DVD in 720p50 and had Compressor re-interlace it. That worked well if that was what was required. The 720p50 modes in DSLRs was pretty much unusable in my situation, so only now having a chance to look at 1080p50 and seeing what it can do. At least the extra bandwidth in the codec means it's not a quality choice. |
