Zeiss 24mm f1.8 e-mount prime
I rented this lens for a civil war short story. I love this Zeiss!
We were in the deep woods at night with absolutely no natural light, except for a half-moon. We lit with 3 lamps, to try and mimic moon light. Just enough light to establish location and see the actors. The fast Zeiss performed flawlessly. Smooth focus ring, very sharp. I'm going to hate to return this lens. |

This post would be much better with a few stills.

Re: Zeiss 24mm f1.8 e-mount prime
how do you like when manual focusing? i have some e-mount lens, the infinitive ring is really driving me crazy, specially on the 50mm. I want to get this lens too, but when i think of it's the same kind of focus ring, i am a bit hesitate on getting it

Re: Zeiss 24mm f1.8 e-mount prime
Hi, i have these lenses:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/662717-REG/Zeiss_1767_825_Planar_T_50mm_F_1_4.htmlhttp://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/818647-REG/Sony_SEL24F18Z_SEL24F18Z_24_mm_f_1_8.html and i have to say that i HATE the fact that the sel18z 24mm with e mount have the infinitive focus ring,i don't like it all, although it is a good lens i'm thinking about selling it just because of that focus ring... that is the reason why i got the zeiss 50 mm 1.4 with nikon mount (got the Novoflex adapter) and i have to say that it works just like a dream...it is great to have a lens that works like classic eng lens...GREAT LENS the only thing about nikon mount that the focus ring works the opposite way but you get used to it quickly.. What do you think about Sigma 24m f1.8
A used one is just about $4xx |
Re: Zeiss 24mm f1.8 e-mount prime
I'm thinking to buy this lens for my nex-ea50. Now I have a fast prime 1.5 24mm from samyang (rokinon) but this one has no autofocus. I have lots of situations I' dont have enough time to focus manual.
1) How is the autofocus for filming on this lens? 2) can this F1.8 zeiss be as good in low light as my samyang F1.5? Or is always a faster aparture lens always better in low light? I thought maybe differences in brands and glass inside could compensate this? |
Re: Zeiss 24mm f1.8 e-mount prime
nobody can answer this?

My experiences with the Rokinon (/Samyang) lenses has been that while they are fairly fast, they tend not to be as crisp (or sharp) as most of my Nikon lenses. |
Re: Zeiss 24mm f1.8 e-mount prime
thx Dave for your reply. This lens has only a focus ring? Ho do you change you aperture?
I want to film at widest F1.8 in low light. For outside a have a variable nd filter to control this |
Re: Zeiss 24mm f1.8 e-mount prime
He has a aperture ring on his lens.

Re: Zeiss 24mm f1.8 e-mount prime
I have seen many video reviews of this lens but they show only the focus ring. I don't see a aperture ring.. maybe there are different versions of it?

Re: Zeiss 24mm f1.8 e-mount prime
I keep a lot of the older Nikon lenses just because they have a real aperture ring. Of course even with a Nikon 'G' design lens (no f-stop ring) many adapters are designed to be able to manually adjust iris using the adapter.
Version of the Sigma I have is seen here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigma_...1.8_EX_DG_lens |
