Re: FS700 Prices Revealed

I doubt that sony will give away a 4k firmware upgrade and screw its higher tier cameras.

A full fs700 with 4k,recorder and servo zoom should be close to 17k.

Re: FS700 Prices Revealed

We can both be half right. Buy the recorder and get the firmware free. who would want an upgrade firmware and not be able to use. This will still put the camera imop in the mid teens at least.

To those of you quoting prices on Sony gear that doesn't even exist yet - you really have no idea what it will cost. You can stop pulling imaginary prices out of your posteriors anytime now.

Re: FS700 Prices Revealed

Sony had a recorder that cost 3500., They are not going to short sell their higher end cameras.

It will be a take it or leave it it's basic marketing 101. You think sony is santa claus?

The fs700 at bh goes for 8k without lens. The lens is another 850.oo thats almost 9k.

If you think that the will sell a 4.2.2 or 4.4.4. recorder for the price of a samurai you are dreaming. But even if they do you are taking of a camera in the 10k without servo zoom.

I figure about 4k give or take 500. Now we are in the 13 k region then add a servo zoom 2k at least.
15k is now the price.

They seem to be following The Red system of modular and upgrades.

Dream on

Ric

You probobly have experience putting things in you posterioir i don't. K.M.A

Re: FS700 Prices Revealed

The Gemini would be able to record the 4k RAW stream if Sony packages the data as I expect they will. We know how much that recorder costs. Obviously the firmware of the Gemini would have to be updated to accept the FS700's RAW format.

If you are going to use any figure to budget for a recorder I would start with the price of a Gemini.

Re: FS700 Prices Revealed

I wanted to be more conservative in pricing. but 4.4.4 ,sdi should be part of the package that sony presents. If gemeni is the bench mark we are talking about at least 7k with ssd so a full fs700 would be close to 20k. I don't think it will go that high but who knows. But I doubt they would want to affect the F3 sales. F3 start at about 13k without lens. But we will.

Re: FS700 Prices Revealed

It will never be 444 due to internal processing limitations. But then if you have RAW why do you need 444. The 4K may also work with the Ki-Pro Quad. I'd be very surprised if any servo zoom was less than $3K.

While Sony do like to protect various product lines, you do need to remember that the FS100/FS700 come from a different team and different factory to the F3. The FS cameras are from Shinegawa while the F3 and other XDCAM and above products come from Atsugi and there is some quite strong rivalry to be the best between these two teams.

Re: FS700 Prices Revealed

Exactly thats why sony has announced a 4.4.4. recorder to output from the camera after a firmware update that will give fs700 4.4.4 capacity.

Re: FS700 Prices Revealed

Where did they announce that? Do you have an official link? The output is absolutely restricted to 8 bit, even the 3G output is only going to be 8 bit. 8 Bit RGB or YCbCr makes no sense at all when you will have 10 bit RAW.

Don't be confused by the RGB HDMI option where the FS700 can output 8 bit RGB over HDMI. RGB is by it's very nature 4:4:4 but the data stream going in to that HDMI output is only 4:2:2. So you have a 4:4:4 signal but the data it contains is only 4:2:2 and has been cross converted from YCbCr so will be of lower quality than a proper 4:2:2 YCbCr output.

Re: FS700 Prices Revealed

No reference to 444 in those videos, only the 4k option, which is something quite different.

I am a Sony ICE and I was on the booth at NAB and there was no mention of 444. My japanese Sony engineering contacts have not mentioned 444. I think you are mistaken.

Re: FS700 Prices Revealed

you are rightI don't know how i got the two mixed but still the 4 k option will only work with a sony recorder to be announced in an undetermined future. I asume this will price the camera just under the f3.

or close to the cannon 300. and higher with the servo zoom lens.
