Affordable and versatile. It has a consistent F4 through the zoom range and minimum focus is 1.5 feet. I assume v2 or v3 firmware will work with this zoom motor. The zoom is internal so the physical length of the lens is fixed. Available in December.

Sony also released details on a new 50mm F1.8 prime and a Zeiss 16-70 F4 zoom.

That could be a awesome interview lens for the FS-100. If it works on the FS-100. I wouldn't mind having the power zoom control on the lens instead of the camera. 27- 158mm is a good ball park for me.

yea with constant aperture it would rock!

Yeah, I don't really need the power zoom part but 27-158 indoors with OIS while maintaining f-stop on the zoom would be handy, as you could zoom during a shot and not have to keyframe an exposure adjustment in post if you wanted it in the edit.

Might have to pull a wedding on the side off the books so the wife doesn't catch me using the credit card. :-)

I pulled the trigger with B&H and I agree with you guys. Having that focal range at a constant aperture and having the lens size stay the same is awesome for $598. Will be useful at my event jobs outside and at the ceremonies.

I hope the focus ring works at a constant ratio and doesn't vary according to the speed it is turned like the focus on the 18-200 lens.

That is my question as well... Is the focus servo driven or not. I hate the manual focus of the 18-200 that came with the FS700.

Agree, focusing with the 18-200 is a guessing game, I only wish those new lenses would be a constant f2.8

Will Active Stabilization work with this lens or just OSS?

I use the 18-200 power zoom usually in manual but then use push auto focus with face detection on, works really well for live performances. The 50mm 1.8 which is the only other Sony lens I have, is much much slower in finding focus/faces. (on a EA50). If the new 18-105 is on par with the 18-200 in that regard it will be a great lens for me.
Agree with you on the 2.8 though! Although I would never be able afford what those would cost ;)

Yes, the focussing aids on this camera are great but if you turn the focus ring on the stocklens then it has a mind of its own.

Sony needs to come out with a long servo zoom lens for this camera - something severely lacking in the large sensor camera space in general. I find that the majority of times when servos are really useful for me are in live production scenarios where the distance to my subject is often well past where these 105mm or even a 200mm can go. Maybe it's just me...

SELP18200 should do what you want... I really like it.
