DV review of PDX-10 is out..
 

Hi all,

I got my DV magazine today in the mail, and the review of the PDX-10 is in this issue.. Check it out.. the review is overall pretty favorable.. They rate it 4 out of 5 stars...Some highlights are Great audio connections, good battery system,best 16:9 for under $4000..Some cons were the handhel form factor(I had trouble with the form factor and found the camera a little awkward at first, but I have adjusted to it) and another con was no gamma or knee image controls..

Interesting... how do I get better 16:9 for $4,000? ;-) I'm guessing maybe they were thinking of a PD-150 with an anamorphic lens, since I think you need to get up around $15,000 for a DSR-570.

Yeah i guess it was decent review.. One thing I thought they might mention was the cameras less than stellar low light performance( no its not horrible, just not as good as PDP 150), and the vertical smearing when pointed at a light source.. Overall i have had the camera for about 2 months now, and am pretty happy with it.. and really the review is pretty darn accurate...

The DV magazine review is now available on their website at http://dv.com/reviews/reviews_item.j...questid=261530 His main complaint was the lack of adjustable knee and gamma, as compared to two cameras that cost nearly twice as much (features also lacking in the PD-150)

On the whole, the PDX10 is an impressive package, especially in the audio and 16:9 department. The innovative new CCD delivers the best in-camera (i.e., adapter-free) 16:9 DV has seen below $4000.

Now I'm still trying to figure out which $4,000 camera will give me better 16:9 though... ;-)

Yeah, I think it would have been better if Bruce had said it's the best 16:9 camera for under $15,000, unless you put an anamorphic adapter on one of the $4,000 cameras. I don't think he meant to imply there is a $4,000 16:9 camera out there, but it's easy to interpret the line that way.

Which makes me think...I wonder why the hell Sony doesn't revamp the PD150 and sell a 1/3" 16:9 camera, or at least one with 1/3" chips that does 16:9 the way the PDX10 does? I guess if they did, lots of people who buy DSR500s would reconsider.

Well I did put a "smiley" after my comment, I was kinda joking. But at first I thought he meant a $4,000 camera with an adaptor until I re-read the quote: "The innovative new CCD delivers the best in-camera (i.e., adapter-free) 16:9 DV has seen below $4000."

So it is sort of a curious statement.

Lots of us would like one of those. Others have suggested that Sony isn't pushing the PDX-10 too hard since it could cannibalize some sales of the more expensive models. But there are certainly compromises in the control layout, balance, lack of zoom ring, and other PDX-10 features. I don't remember who said it here, but somebody had the right idea when they dubbed it the ParaDoX-10 ;-)
