TRV950/PDX-10 comparible to TRV38 in low light?
I have a DCR-TRV38 right now and I am looking for a camera that is better in low light.
I understand the TRV950/PDX-10 both use 1/4.7" CCD's. The same size as the single CCD in the TRV38. All of these cameras are rated at 7 LUX. Is the quality in low light any better with the TRV950/PDX-10 over the TRV38? |
3 CCD's are more sensitiv which can specially seen in the colordefinition/information.
In black and white the difference will not be very significant at the same sensitivity rating in lux |
The fast answer is that there going to be very little difference, not anything to be concerned about. Why do you ask, out of curiosity?
|
The reason I ask is because I have been shooting some jobs lately that are in really low light and the last one I did, didn't look very good at all.
And I am trying to decide on a new camcorder, but I don't have much of a budget at this time. |
If low ligt is priority and 16x9 is not important, you might want to go for VX2000 or VX2100 which is much more sensitive in low light.
|
I agree, but it is almost $1500 more Canadian.

How about the GL2?
|
Jeff, why not consider the Pana PV-DV852 for under $600 from B&H for your 1-chip "low light" cam? It has a 1/3.8" CCD and plays back 530 horizontal lines. It also has good manual controls and OIS.
