Stuff I bought today for the PDX10
 

Well,I am turning into a PDX10 junkie. Here's the list of stuff I bought to support this little gem recently.

I just ordered the Cinetactics Mattblox kit for $169 and the 72mm adapter. Ran a total of $207. Later I will be ordering the oversized French Flag from them and will get the additional step up rings to go from 37mm to 72mm at the local camera shops.

I also ordered today, a Portabrace CAR-3 (Cargo Case 3) for the camera and mics, etc. I also ordered the hoodman LCD hood, the ICUFF-3 eyecup and a MUFF-1E fuzzy wind cover from TecNec for the standard shotgun.

I recently purchased the Azden LT100 wireless mic and associated cables. Works super.

All in all, along with the Manfrotto tripod, this is working into a nice package. I am currently shooting and editing a DVD for children. More on that later.

Oh, also bought a Tiffen 37mm Circular polarizer. Waiting for some sunny days here in central Ohio to put it all to good use.

Cool Sean! Let us know what you think about the cinetactics matte box. Someone else here had one, but haven't heard from them for awhile. Pictures of your tricked out PDX-10 would be nice too :-)

The Portabrace CAR-3 is very nice, and easily accommodates the PDX-10 and accessories. Did you consider a wide angle adaptor? I can recommend the Century Optics 0.65x model - very good quality and fits nicely inside the wide lens hood that comes with the PDX-10.

Yeah, a wide adaptor really does come in handy. You could also add a telephoto to "Santa's list" ;-) I just shot a bunch of performance footage with my Sony 2x high grade telephoto adaptor and was really happy with the results. Everyone was impressed at how I was able to get fairly intimate shots from 110 feet away.

Well, the one thing I am most concerned about is that the accessories I buy for the camera are compatible with the 16:9 mode.

I shoot everything I can in 16:9 these days and am working on a kids DVD - more on that another time. I want to aviod anything that might vignette or cause other degradations to my images.

I am thinking of a wide adapter and am wondering if it will still function with the standard Cinetactics Mattblox? I did ask Greg at Cinetactics if the smaller PDX10 needed their wide Mattblox but he says the standard version is fine for the PDX10.

Boyd, I looked at the links you had posted of some of the tighter shots in another thread. The female vocalist was one of the best images. Lighting for that shot was quite out of the Renasiance if you ask me too. She hit a good spot for that image. You done good.

I will post some pix of the entire setup after it all arrives. I am working on the studio space this winter and should have that operational by spring also.

Thanks Sean, sometimes the stage lighting cooperates, but not all that often. This show worked well because it made heavy use of footlights which tend to kill the harsh shadow from overhead units.

I don't know why the wide adaptor wouldn't work with the mattebox since none of them seem to have a problem with the lens hood (even with my .45x), but you will soon know for sure. Make sure you check on a monitor or the PC since the viewfinder and LCD don't show the full frame (which you probably already know ;-)

Sounds like you're putting together a nice setup... a studio even!

I use a canon wide angle (wd58 I think) on my pdx10 with good results in 16:9.... and I've used the cinetactics matte with it and they work well together. In fact they used to have the canon wa as a feature lens on the cinetactics website.

You have to get a step up ring 37mm>58mm.

My Cinetactics kit arrived today. I confirmed a suspicion that the mattbox will indeed fit pretty snug around the smaller lens hood that comes with the camera. So, if you want to attach it to the camera without all the adapters, just wrap it around the small lens shade. This means you can't use a stack of filters or even the wide or telephoto lenses as the lens hood is weird. It has that goofy 3 point connection system so you can't add aux lenses or even more than the skylight (UV) filter under it. Thanks Sony Engineering people.

Aside from that, it's pretty neat. The Hodman LCD shadearrived a few days ago and also fit's verywell. I don't think it will be too abrasive at the points where it mounts, a fear I had. It does however, as mentioned about all these LCD hoods, block the controls in the flip out section. A small price to pay for being able to see what I am shooting.

I am waiting on the sock for the mic, the I-Cuff for the eyepiece and most importantly, the PortaBrace bag.

More on them when they arrive.
