Sennheiser Mke300d Problem
 

Any one out there experienced problems when using the Sennheiser MKE300D on a 950. I have now tried 3 different MKE3000Ds and there all the same, they pick up motor noise from the cam. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Do you have it sitting directly in the shoe on top of the mic? If so you might look at the mini mount

or a similar device to protect the mic from the vibrations of the camcorder

Thanks for the reply Ken but its not just a vibration problem the mic is picking up the motor noise from the cam so it doesnt matter if its placed on a mount or not and to be truthful I bought this mic for its ability to sit on the shoe which its not capable off and it seems daft to have to spend nearly the same amount again on a plastic mount even ifthis did work. Never mind Im getting my money back next week and shall be looking at some new mics. Do you use an external mic on your 950, if so what do you have.

You're absolutely sure the MKE300 is the "D" version you have Phil? It sounds suspicious to me as I've tried the 300 and the 300D on a Panasonic three chip 110 and on the Sony VX2k and the 300D mic is silent on them both, whereas the 300 is unuseable, it hums so much.

I have had a total of 3 MKE300Ds now Tom and everyone was terrible Ive just asked for my money back and Im looking elsewere. The best laugh is I called Sennheiser Uk and they told me that the 300D is causing problems on some Sony cams and in particular they do not reccomend people use it on the VX2000, the exact cam you mention, I have read many posts on various forums about problems with it on VX2000 and many other cams and as far as Im concerned there is no consistancy with the extra shielding put on this mic, on some it works on others it doesnt they need to get this one saughted as theres allot of people getting messed around by this particular product and its so called extra shielding. Just out of interest Tom, is there anything on the MKE300D itself which would tell you it is a D version apart from the sticker on the box, Im just wondering if my supplier is sticking things on the box and flogging it at a higher price for a unmodified version.

I don't think there is Phil, but if you take the thing apart there's a lot more shielding on the very fine wires that feed the curly cable on the D version.
