PD150 viewfinder in VX2000 feasible?

Hello,

To all the "power users" out there: Just curious about your thoughts... The warranty on my vx2000 is long gone, and I am very handy with tools. I noticed that the viewfinder for the vx2000 and PD150 are virtually identical physically--- if I were to get a replacement PD150 viewfinder do you think it would be feasible to remove the colour viewfinder from my VX2000 and replace it with the higher-res B&W viewfinder from the PD150?

Thanks,
Graham Jones.

Sales plugs belong in the classifieds section.

Don't know about the viewfinders. I'd not make a decision until I'd seen the manuals on both camcorders. Just off hand, I'd guess no but if you open up both models and the feed circuitry is the same (chip numbers, etc.) then the only diff might be the firmware that is enabled.

Hmmm... I was hoping it might be simpler than that--- I'm not eager to update the firmware. I was hoping a straight swap with the different LCD would do the trick.

Anyone else in the know?

Hmmm...

So John, does that mean you had success with the modification, and/or finding service info? Your other thread sounded quite interesting but there was no happy ending...?

well I gave up the search for a service manual when I learned of the cost

so

I took it to my local TV repair man and he quickly found the right pins so he made it work for me from 4x AA cells at a price just slightly more than a service manual would cost

works great

take the tube!!

Another comment.

Unless the substitution were seamless, and perhaps even then, the resale value of the camera has to have taken a real beating.

Sony would probably refuse to work on the camera should you have problems in that area. Or maybe they wouldn't even notice :-)
