Case for PD150
 

Got my PD150 today .. I must say .. what a cam !!!

Now, I am looking for a cam I can put my PD150 and my MVC-CD400 digital camera .. any suggestions ?

Also, is there a serial number that Sony started shipping the cams with the whole audio hiss problem solved ? (so I can check against mine)

and last .. what Stereo mic would you guys recomend to replace the mono one that comes with the cam

Congrats Carlos,
The PD150 is awesome. Been using them for over 2 years and they are a definte WOW!

As for a case, do you want a hard or soft case? I prefer the hard case (I'm not always too gentle with my stuff) and use a case from ShockStop-it's cut out specifically for the 150 and lots of accessories. If I told you what I carry in the case you might not believe it.
If you're looking for a soft case, Kata and Portabrace would be really good places to start.

As for the hiss, I can't remember the serial number the fix began with, both of mine are before the fix BUT even then, as long as I watch my levels as you should do anyway, I have never noticed an excessive hiss so I would be too concerned with it.
Especially if you bought the cam new.

As for mic, don't use a "stereo" mic, the audio you save might be your own.
The stock mic is way too nondirectional and weak, alot of folks use various Sennheisers, Azden, AT, AKG and I think there's even a few Shure mics hanging off the camera.
Check out some of the posts in the audio section. I'm sure you'll find lots of good info there.

I'm sure there are many other places to find them, such as B&H but I can only send you to where I know they have it.

how about a UV Filter .. can you recomand a good one for the PD150 ? :)

Best filters by far. Most expensive but really good.

I was a bit confuse by wich one to choose .. these two seem to be the same filter .. but big difference in price :p

You want multi-coated and clear glass. This one has all of that.

what is the multi-coat for ? (just curious)

Stops reflections off the surface of the filter, stopping a lot of ghosting caused by the fact that the filter glass is of finite thickness. If one could make a filter from something as thin as a soap bubble, then the multi-coating would not be needed.

What's wrong with a "stereo" mic? I bought a nice one that produces nice recording with a nice, wide stereo field. It's
not intended to be directional, if that's your issue with "stereo" mics.

Maybe it's just the one's that I've looked at (heard)-never really happy with the sound. Of course that was a couple of years ago I'm sure they've gotten better so I'll amend my statment, try different mics until you find one you like.

Hi Carlos, l bought a Pelican 1600 case and the dealers who sold it to me have a custom foam template which replaces the exsisting foam. Pelican do a fantastic job but the pluck system isn't always the greatest. This is a very firm foam and it is cut to size...it fits the camera, 3 960 batteries, charger, wide angle lens power supply and cut out for a sony freedom wireless mike, not to mention a section for headphones and tapes aswell as tapes etc. It is an awesome case and l got it in orange as l had my last camera stolen and i figured, well at least l will spot it out in the crowd....!!!! I may even post a picture of it so you can get a better idea...regards Michael
