PD150 no longer being made?

I just talked to my dealer and he says his sources are saying they cant get the PD150 anymore. Also saying the VX2000 is getting hard to get. So, is a replacement for the PD150 coming, or are they having technical issues?

It is very unlikely that anyone on this forum would know the answers or even if there is an issue. Certainly no strong rumor has been heard in other Sony-specific forums.

B&H is out of stock on the NTSC, in-stock on the PAL versions.

Just got a PD-150 for a customer. No problems.

I heared, maybe a month or 2 ago, that sony had stoped making both models (not discontinued, just a stoppage of production).

And this poped up on another board a while back:

All rumors as far as I'm concerend, but I am hopefull.

just months after the VX1000 was released people where already talking about a VX2000 .. it took 5 years

why fix it if it aint broke .. we probably will see the vx2k and pd150 for another 18 months or so

Again, I am not trying to say a rumor. My dealer sells/sold tons of this sony stuff. He is not able to get from his distributors.
So, he doesnt have one he can sell me and is being told they dont know whats going on.

If you are trying to buy a new PD150, then sounds like you may need to find a different dealer (B&H maybe). Recently there was a price drop that could have cause manufacurer shortage.

If you already own a PD150 and are anxious for the new models, don't expect your current cam to become a relic. the PD150 will be around for some time, just like the 1000, etc.

"why fix it if it aint broke"

While it's probably the most reliable "prosumer" out there, and it sure isn't broken, the fact is the DVX100 although probably not outselling it, is coming close.

For Sony to sit back and let their market share erode would be "breaking" their stronghold on the market. Not that it's in danger anytime soon, but it's heading that way if they don't answer with something new soon.

The stars seem to be aligning, it does seem they'll have a new model out this year. I'd be surprised if it didn't have 24P/30P capability. Competition is a great thing. (But knowing Sony, watch it just be a watered down consumerish model)

BTW, I'm not trying to stir up a manufacturer debate. It's just that I agonized over the PD150/DVX100 decision for quite a while and decided to go with the DVX100. If Sony had something comparable (progressive wise) in the price range they would have gotten my money instead.
