Any concerns with Sony cams?
Howdy,
I am a photojournalist (recovering photographer gone video) and I just purchased a VX2100 (plus) to do documentaries during travels throughout the 3rd world. Any concerns or "heads up" about common problems/fixes with Sony cams would be most useful. I recently discovered this site, and it has already proven extremely useful. Thanks, C. "Munch" Fairman |
I think the older model (VX2000) had some audio issues, but
I'm not sure if the later versions of that model still had it. Did you try searching on "VX2000 problem" here? I haven't heard much about the VX2100 yet. |
The VX2100 is an already great VX2000 made better. The VX2100 is too new of a cam, so no issues have been reported yet, as far as I know.

It sounds like you have some great video ahead of you. One of the annoying "features" of the camera (I have the 2000) is its habit of going into standby after five (?) minutes of inactivity. For months I used the thumb switch to off then on until I read in the BBC training material that tapping the still photo shutter button would bring it out of standby. It does, and what a godsend.

Thanks for the tips! (I checked out the BBC site... good call).
I received my 2100 today and I think I'm going to have fun. I had been leaning towards a GL-2, opting for the VX2100 at the last minute (several reasons, low-light, durability and not silver/white!). Anyway, I don't expect any problems, but all gear tends to have one/two bugs to adapt and overcome. Sounds like there isn't too much to worry about. Happy shooting, Mike Fairman |
